Tips for setting up South Bend cast iron legs?

A couple of months ago I bought a SB 9A on a set of cast iron legs and chip tray. I disassembled the lathe to transport it and now I'm finally getting around to putting it back together. When I took it apart, I had a couple of people helping me. But I'm assembling it on my own and having trouble holding everything together while trying to install the bolts. The bolts pass through the feet of the lathe bed, through the chip pan, through a heavy steel plate, and thread into the top of the cast iron legs. The problem is that all these pieces are simply sandwiched together and nothing holds them in place until the bolts are installed. Is there any trick to doing this by yourself?
