Wicks and oiler questions

I have a 1951 SB9" with the side-mounted oilers. Sometimes when I open the lid on the rear oiler the oil drains away. I top it up and all is well. I always squirt a bit of oil onto the bearings before starting the machine. Any idea what my problem is?

How often should the wicks be changed?

Cheers

That is likely simply the gits flip top sealing itself to the body of the oiler, then as oil is used a small vacuum forms...you flip the top open and the vacuum does what vacuums do...:)

When I overhauled my 10K I used a small triangular file to cut a notch in the top edge of the oil cups to prevent this vacuum seal from forming. Now the cups feed perfectly.
