WTB outer jaws for a 3 jaw 6" Buck lathe chuck ... please help
i scored my dream chuck on ebay for a price i could afford, but i need an outer jaw set for it. thanks matt
i would like to trade cutters or tooling i have or cash. again thanks

Do you mean that you need jaw TOPS, or that you need OUTSIDE jaws?
If you have inside jaws, they ARE your outside jaws, as you can reverse them
If what you need are tops, that's a standard American tongue and groove jaw, so there are a number of suppliers.
Wholesale tool has them:
Hard Top Jaws for Gator 3-Jaw Scroll Chucks
Just check the dimensions, particularly the width of the tongue and the bolt hole spacing.
You can also get soft jaws, which are great for repeatability when you need to make a bunch of parts and have them register in the same location. Wholesale Tool has those too.

Please see pic. The groove is opposite then most chucks. I would like factory Buck jaws

Kalamazoo Chuck makes jaws for their 2063R chuck to what I believe is the old Buck 2063R standard.
That being said the only way you're going to find top jaws from Buck would be to find some new old stock It pops up on eBay once in a while.

OK, didn't catch that.
At least for soft jaws, you could get the American standard ones and mill out the slot.

Matt,
Help me out a bit. I have some jaws that came with some tooling I received with a lathe. I'm pretty certain they are genuine Buck jaws. One set looks like it might attach to the top of those bottom sets you have.
The scroll jaws have the arches on the bottom and are you saying you need the outside jaw pieces that fit on those in the pic you posted?
EDIT: I got my son to take a couple pics of this one set, but I think they are not what you need, they appear to be the opposite of what I thought would fit on yours. I've shown the bottoms which have a step in the center as your bottom pieces.
Do you have a scroll under those pieces? I think I've only got inside jaws for a scroll.

Did you check with Kalamazoo Chuck? They say that their part number for the set is 10050-3 and cost $215.

If that's really true I might have to do that myself. I've been looking for over a year. Last I checked with them they wanted almost $400 for the set. F that. Otherwise I would love to find an old used set...

They do come up on eBay once in a while, but you have to be careful as the other form (jaws have cross tabs instead of slots) is a lot more common.

the first pics a no, but the second pic maybe. the sets are matched and need to be ground together to match. i would buy them if the bolts line up . give me some pics and size numbers.

Because a chuck without jaws is more properly known as a "doorstop".

I don't know their current current price but BTC ( BTC Chuck ) makes a pretty good copy of that chuck, their model is 1063R and less than a year ago they gave me a price of about $150.00 for a set of top jaws for that exact model of chuck you have, that was will calling at their Los Angeles Location and with a dealer discount so it might be more. I sold the chuck with a lathe so never purchased the jaws from them but have had BTC chucks before and they seem like a good quality for the money.

Vette, isn't the 2nd. picture the same set of jaws, different view? They are cut the opposite of what you need. You could just make a set of jaws, even out of soft steel, and case harden them if you use low carbon steel. Mount them on the chuck and grind them true in situ. Better to make them out of A2 which will air harmed clear through so you won't grind the case off.

btc states all jaws are "American Standard tongue and groove". which is the common one that does not fit. i think mine are called 6" dia "square serrated key" type hard jaws.
my price is $50 cash (or $150 worth of inserts/tooling) for anyone that can dig a set out of their tool box!!!!!
-
most people say the btc 'adjust thu" chuck is a copy of my buck and has the 2 piece jaws i need as stated by Samo. confused now
-
I was diggin' through a box of stuff that came with my lathe and found a set of top jaws.
They are too small for my 8" Buck.
Shoot me the measurements of your bottom jaws, and I'll check them out.

Maybe you should look for a deal on a chuck with just the outside jaws?
Then you can just swap chucks and not change jaws.
