Need a 1.5" collet immediately, but would consider singles or sets. Don't care how they look as long as they're accurate. Please email me at neilhoatinnevi.com.

Thanks!
Neil

I don't have a spare in that size, but you might give Bob Seibert of Cyber Tech Tooling (Beavercreek, OH 45432) a call at 937-320-2298. He was selling a (relatively) large number of 22J collets on eBay in January and may still have some left.

Thanks for the reference. I called and talked to a couple of his coworkers, who didn't think they had any left, but haven't been able to reach Bob on his cellphone. I'll keep trying.

I did break down and order a new 1.5" collet from Hardinge. $135 + shipping, which actually ain't too bad since I need it, but building a set this way could get kinda salty. Perusing closed auctions on ebay gives me hope that they're out there, at times, at pretty reasonable prices, just not now.

Any other ideas for other potential vendors out there?

Nope, they don't seem to come up very often. Only thing I can suggest is to act decisively if you see some on offer.

I've not been desperate enough to do this, but you could hunt for a neglected Hybco 1100 tap grinder that has the large attachments (don't recall the attachment model numbers offhand) and strip any collets from it. Because that's the only other use for 22J collets I know of besides the Sjogren chucks.

Add the Hybco to the application list. I hadn't heard of the Hybco tap grinder, or even of Hybco.

I need the 22Js for my Wade 98 (9" turret lathe), Rivett made a similar turret lathe, one of which is on eBay now, and Rivett reportedly made a large collet version of the 1020/1030 that uses them. IIRC, Brett Flemming (Pm member) has one of these.

The Rivett 1020/1030 used a 6R collet. I am not familiar with the 22J, but had some 2J collets with a speed collet chuck I sold off, and they were a bit different than the 6R.

Alan,

In searching the archives for support of my (sometimes failing) memory, came across pix of your Rivett restoration. Nice! You did a lot of great work on it.

Here's the thread on Brett's machine- http://www.practicalmachinist.com/v...262-rare-l-1-spindle-2-5-16-thru-hole-179247/ .Unfortunately, the thread is old enough that no pix are shown, but the hint that it takes 22J collets (as I recall) is in the first paragraph- 2 5/16" through hole.

22J collets are monsters- they'll take 2 1/4" max round thru. I'm shopping for them for a Wade 98 I just bought for a recurring job- 1.5" diameter short round things just begging for facing, turning and cutting off in one chucking, before going to the CNC lathe. I'm doing it now (well, part of it anyway) in a 13" South Bend, and it is slow, slow, slow.

Neil

Are you still needing a 1.5" 22J collet? I *think* I have 2 of them..

Well dang, I just bought one from Hardinge, but I do need others, if you have any other spares. I have two 1 1/4 collets, one of which I'd be happy to trade or sell, and the new 1 1/2, and that's the extent of my 22J collet collection.

Neil

If my notes are correct (not at the shop right how, so can't double-check), I have extra 1-1/8, 1-1/4, 1-5/16, 1-3/4 round, and I'd love to trade for round odd 32nd's over 1-1/2" (e.g., 1-17/32, 1-19/32, etc) except 1-25/32 and 1-27/32 which I already have.

I don't have anything to trade, but am interested in buying your extra 1-1/8, 1-5/16, 1-3/4 round collets. Pm me if that's something of interest to you.

Neil

I now have 1-1/4, 1-3/8, 1-1/2, 1-5/8, 1-3/4, 1-13/16, 1-7/8, 2, 2-1/8, and 2-1/4 collets.

I'd like to buy more in any size not listed over an inch.

Neil

Updating my list, as two collets have just gone to Neil.

And updating my list, too.

Thanks to PM members, I now have 1-1/8, 1-1/4, 1-5/16, 1-3/8, 1-1/2, 1-5/8, 1-3/4, 1-13/16, 1-7/8, 2, 2-1/8, and 2-1/4 collets.

I'd like to buy more in any other size over an inch and have an extra 1-1/4 Hardinge 6 split for sale or trade.

Thanks for looking,

Neil

Updating the list again. Getting the makings of a set now- special thanks to Stu Friedberg and Sneebot.

Having bought all the 16ths and eighth sizes I need, I'm looking for 32nds:

And I have 1-1/4 and 1-15/16 collets for trade or sale.

Thanks for looking!

Neil
