Well, haven't really posted in awhile. Busier than hell with a ton of crap going on and then on top of it..... a new girl rolls in the door. Well, triplets to be exact......

#1 is near turnkey, #2 is beginning to grow... #3 is not far behind. The first of it's kind was installed in Wisconsin (I think). These are number 2, 3 and 4 to be installed in the country.

Her name is Toyoda FH1250SX with: 15k BIG PLUS spindles, 330 Tool Hive, Renishaw touch probes and tool probes, almost every control option like expanded memory (both front and HD), Adaptive Feed Control, the top end HSM software and hardware.... you name it.... , full 4th, Consep High dump conveyors (7 ft.), 1000 PSI thru-spindle coolant pumps., etc, etc....

An FMS is being planned to go in front of them as well. But since the machine model is so new, they've never built one so it's all still in concept. Tentative designs are laid down but nothing even in draft. I don't care much for the 310i control (too many issues at high speed and fast buffers) but we'll see how this newer revision works out. Toyoda also has a new control/software overlay that's only installed on these FH machines so far. I hope we don't get beat up too bad as guinea pigs. The 40HP spindle is low for my blood but what she can manage is yet to be seen.

The magazines for now is only 120 tool chain. They didn't have the hives ready yet. Once they're in (around October or so) the machine will grow another 12 feet plus out back...

She's a tall, wide and a long one and you could throw a band up there on the load stations for a concert. Notice the guy on top of the machine in the second photo for perspective... The fun should begin soon...

XYZ is 83.5 x 63.0 x 73.0

She can clear a Ø94.50 inch by 71" tall

11000 pound table capacity (low IMO for a machine this size)

... 1181 IPM rapid/feed... Not bad. I can't remember the acceleration.... have to look that up....

Technically, thats BBM(big beautiful machine) porn, so the pretty boys and the ones still in the closet may not like it. Them are some big girls, I'd take one home in a second(I'm not saying what I would do with her), OR I could actually put my home IN one.

Greg your right, at 1200IPM the over ride knob will be the first thing to break. This machine could probably use a sphincter activated estop .

I stold that line from another post could not remember who said it but I was if tears when I heard it.

Question, in that last picture. I see 5 of the bigger servos with the red endbells. But what are the 2 other smaller white motors that we see way on the end closer to us, what do they control?

Only 40 HP? What are you guys making, and what kind of tooling do yuu use that stands up to "only 40 HP"?

I just gotta ask, I never had the chance to dance with gals of that caliber.

1200IPM won't look NEARLY as fast on that machine as it does on the small machines.

dollars?? Well, because of corporate relations and other things, I can't put down the exact... however, let's just say you could build yourself a real nice custom beach house on a few acres in Monterey Bay ...

1200ipm is routine for me.. big or small machine... rapid or feed.... But Ox is dead on. 1200 inches on a machine this size is like time slowing down. The relative size makes it look slow and to be honest, not that hard to maintain control at this size... unless of course you've got the spindle cartridge inside the part feeding at 1200 inches.

The machine has dual ball screws which account for the motors plus the table one. The white ones (there's actually three of them) are the chip augers.

Yes, "only 40HP" in my book. Not trying to be vain but my handle "Psychomill" was a nickname given to me back in the mid 80's and it stuck ever since. As tool technology, horsepower and process/program methodology improved, it only solidified that name according to my "sources". To me? I make or stake no claims of anything.... I just like to play with toys. What kind of cutters? Too many to list but they're not super special or uncommon. I've been playing with 50HP+ machines for the last 10 years (outside of the 150HP gantries I've played with but thats a different ballgame). So 40 is like moving back in time. BUT.. we'll see how the torque, acceleration and other things work with it. I won't call it crap unless I can prove that the combination is crap. The continuous HP rating drops off real bad with FANUC motors but again, we'll see...

And Joe, you're right, I see a potential problem with the augers as well.... even with 3 (but little) ones. I push 200-300+ cubes already. But I've had similar type setups give me big problems at only 100-150 cubes. There may be some serious modifying in the machines future. For the moment, the first jobs going up are large plates so its not like I'll have a 5" cutter moving 300 cubes for an hour. Might be the saving grace for the time being.

Foundation? Believe or not, Toy only spec'd it at 20". I wanted minimum 40" anyway but didn't get it. I think its around 24-28 or so with 2 or 3 levels of rebar. But considering the size of this girl, she actually doesn't weigh that much. But the weight and leverage in motion is what usually causes foundation problems. Would suck to have to redo that eh?..

Yep.. 3 of 'em. OH! but its not over yet. We may prowl the alleys for some more of these girls soon. But, next month, I have some others coming in. This time, it will be twins.... with far more "experience" and a completely different "wardrobe" from a different "town". I'll paste their posters up too when they come in....
