I have this Furnas Motor Starter , I want to use it to start my air compressor, 5hp Quincy.

If I wire two legs from the service line to L1, and L2, the contactor snaps shut instantly.

If I wire it to my phase converter, the contactor doesn't actuate and will throw a breaker on L1 after a few minutes of being on.

I tried swapping the leads around, but its always the same.

If I wire the motor direct to the 3phase panel, it spins no problem.

Whats going on here??:nutter:

Maxim,

Does the coil voltage on your mag correspond to the output voltage of your phase converter. I would guess an appropriate coil voltage for your situation would be 208 or 240 or 480 volts.

Yes, phase converter puts out 240V. I left the meter at home but I don't see any reason why it should change since the last time I measured it.

First thing is to make sure that the manufactured leg from the RPC is not supplying power to the coil on the mag starter.
