I am trying to install a Altivar 31, can some one help with which terminals the start and stop button go to, The 31 does not have stop and start buttons on the front.

The switches shown are momentary contact, I assume?

You're correct, those are momentary (pulse) contacts. Another picture is attached below.
You might want to purchase the remote keypad display, which has the control functions already in place. New cost is around $175, but eBay shows a used one for $85: Telemecanique VW3A31101 Remote Key Pad Kit - eBay (item 380290018852 end time Feb-14-11 16:08:45 PST)

I got the drive working, the drive was not new, and I didn't think to reset to factory spec.I did a reset and followed your example, and it drives the motor.
