Hello all
I picked up a 3 phase 220 to 600 volt transformer for a rotary phase converter.
The phase converter older and is capacitor start but does not have balance caps. I do plan to balance it in the future.
When I opened up the transformer I was very surprised to find it only had 2 transformer coils.
What I could find out about it is it is called an open delta transformer.

My question is, Will the unbalanced supply act the same through this transformer as with a transformer with 3 transformer coils.
or should I be looking for a new transformer.
Thanks
Mike

It should work fine if the transformer has enough capacity. I power my 575-V Aciera mill with an RPC feeding two 240-575 single phase transformers arranged open delta. No issues.

Thank you for your reply.
The transformer nameplate size is 30 kva
the phase converter is 7.5 hp
I was not sure if this style of transformer would contribute to more phase imbalance.

No, it should not add to imbalance, except by the voltage boost ratio. My RPC is a well balanced commercial unit, so no issues running my CNC either with 240 -> 380V xformer.
