A few months ago I picked up a 20hp motor from a rice dryer demolition in Bay City. My plan is to build a larger RPC out of it. That's in the future, though. Spinning the rotor shaft by hand I could tell the bearings were bad so I took it to a motor shop and had them test it before I went any further. The motor shop megged it and connected it to power and ran the thing. It tested good. They said it shook the whole building when they started it up due to the bad bearings. I told them to leave it as it is and I came and picked it up. Here are a few pictures of the motor all broken down.
Pulling the rear bearing off was the easiest. The front one, on the other hand, was a little more of a challange. My puller wasn't long enough to reach the bearing. Being too cheap to go buy another I cut some 1/2" plate and made some extensions. Take a look:
And here is the finished extension to my puller. Worked like a charm.
The next thing I did was to mic the ID and OD of both bearings, write the dimensions down, wrap up the old bearings in a rag, and make a run to Motion Industries over in Oyster Creek, near Lake Jackson. They were out of stock on one of the bearings but the salesman ordered it from their Dallas warehouse and had it shipped directly to me. I got it the next day. I forgot to order new grease seals so Monday I'll have to call them back & get them on order. Today I've been cleaning up the parts and fixing the broken things.
