I want to get my HLV H lathe running in my garage. Here is what I have.

1. Hardinge HLV H running a 1.5 hp 440 motor. (no, it is not dual voltage and I don't want to get it rewound)

2 Phase a Matic 5 hp RPC 220 volt.

3. House current is 110. I have installed a 220 outlet in the garage.

4. Hammond 3 phase auto transformer. 240 to 480.

5. one 3 phase 30 amp disconnect switch.

Question is, How do I install? I hear you have to start the RPC and have it up to speed before you switch on the transformer as the transformer adds load to the current. Do I need two 3 phase disconnects, or can I simply use an on/off switch for the RPC, then the 3 phase switch to the transformer? Can anyone send me a diagram?
I already have all the above available to me. I am not interested in going VFD or any of the other available options.

Make the lathe and step-up transformer into one unit by hard wiring the 480 side to the lathe.

Install the three-phase fusible safety switch on the 240 side of the transformer and hard wire the load side of the switch to the transformer.

Install a flexible cord on the line side of the switch.

Connect to your RPC system in the usual way.
