56A @ 230 3ph... without doin' any math, I'd guess it'd chew up the better part of a 30hp RPC...

You probably won't run the unit at full output, right? I would think about 15hp would give you enough to do most of the welding you wanted to do. I plan on hooking a 600 amp power unit on a 15 idler. I probably won't ever use over about 200 amps welding current from it.

.035 er80S-D2 running at 22volts
pulls right at 200 amps

so we're ok with the rotory concept?

Yup,
Do it every day, run a 50 hp rotary, one of the
things I run on it is a linde 400 amp welder.

A model 400 s.v.i. to be exact.

It's a transformer machine. Not much in the way of
electronics.
