correct 3 phase wiring
Hi all, using a rotary converter what is the correct terminal x y or z on a 3phase plug to connect the wild leg to

At the utilization equipment, it is the owner's choice.
At the panelboard, it is A, B and C, in that order, left to right or top to bottom, with the manufactured phase being B.
Now, within the utilization equipment, it may be important to know which of X, Y or Z is, in fact, the manufactured phase, particularly if the equipment's "three-wire control station" uses L1 and L3, in which case A and C should go to L1 and L3, leaving B for L2.
However, if the equipment uses L1 and L2 for its controls, then A and C should go to L1 and L2, leaving B for L3.
Just remember that within the panelboard, the phases are labeled A, B and C, and within the utilization equipment the phases are usually labeled L1, L2 and L3, and that the indicia within the receptacle and plug, if used, should "map" A, B and C into L1, L3 and L2, or L1, L2 and L3, through X, Y and Z, as appropriate.
I thought there might be an accepted practice to hook the manufactured phase to a specific terminal x y or z.
