When a motor contains instructions for Delta and Wye connections which one should I use?

The motor in question is a 3ph coolant pump motor on my 15/50 Clausing/Colchester lathe. It had been connected Wye at it's former home (community college). I am powering the machine with a RPC. Main lathe drive motor is Wye and connected accordingly...RPC and Lathe run great. However, I removed the sump and pump to clean out the crud, and replace the hose. It's now time to put it back together.

Thanks!

∆ and Y are ways of connecting the motor for a 1 : 1.732 voltage ratio.

In the normal case, a motor which is 230 as Y is 132.791 as ∆, and a motor which is 230 as ∆ is 398.372 as Y.

The 1 : 1.732 ratio is most often seen in European motors which are also intended for the North American market, as Europe uses 380, 400 and 415 (but is "harmonized" at 400), whereas North America uses 220, 230 and 240 (but is generally 240).

[ 220, 230, 240 ] * 1.732 = [ 380, 400, 415 ] .

Sometimes, motors are specified as ∆ and Y with a 1 : 2 voltage ratio, although the true ratio is actually 1 : 1.732.
