I'm new to this site, and machining, and have some questions. I picked up a Bridgeport mill a couple of weeks ago. It has a 1 1/2hp 2J variable speed head. The data plate on the head says 200/400V 5.2 5.1/2.6 amps. 50/60hz. 1430-1700rpm. The shop I am putting it in has 240 3ph power. I am wondering if this motor will work as is, or if I will need a buck/boost transformer to operate it. The coil in the control box is an Allen-Bradley 208 3ph, (71a113). If I am able to run the motor on 240, will I have to change this coil? Right now, the motor is wired in a wye configuration for low voltage. The machine is a '75 according to the serial number. Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Jim,

In my unprofessional opinion, your mill should work fine if you connect your existing motor for the lower voltage and use the same coil for the mag.
