    Hello All:

I recently bought an Oliver jointer equipped with a 50hz 3ph motor. I was about to get a rotary phase converter to power it. But I got to wondering: Should I be concerned about running the 50hz motor with 60hz power?

If it is a problem I could get a VFD (a little more expensive). If not, I would just as soon use a rotary phase converter.

    Thanks,

    Jim

The higher the frequency, the less required iron.

The lower the frequency, the more required iron.

Your 50 Hz motor should run fine on 60 Hz.

The base speed will be 120 percent of its nameplate rating.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping.

A fellow near me was importing hot water high pressure washers from Europe. He got some that had a different plug and 50 hertz sticker. He was just sure they wouldn't work on 60 hertz power. I got an awfully nice washer for $500.
