In case you need a 4A with a big hole

What the heck are those Swiss cheese things on the turret?

Regards.

Mike

Also... fat guide bars that engage socket on top of head stock (not present) to steady up turret in the cut(s)

That is the "why" some of the "Swiss cheese" holes are so high up - to mount these bars

Sort of an "over arm" except on a lathe - and in each turret station thought needed

Normal extra heavy duty stuff 80 years ago.

I knew instantly this was a big hole when I saw the photo of the headstock cast iron around the front bearing behind the chuck

Edit in scan from one of their 1934 catalogs (lower right text block unrelated)

Since you don't see big old WS that often, here are the CL listing photos for posterity

And the other five. The listing states the spindle hole is 7 1/2".

That spindle bore is really convenient and combined with the right chuck really makes this a great lathe.
That slot in the front prism way really nags at me.
An upgrade would be the rapid travel joystick and the missing way covers.
