End of an era: Wendell Castle gone.

I posted a version of this on OWWM yesterday which some of you may have seen.
It's in the news, now.

PM'r Richard Newman forwarded a message that Wendell Castle died last night, surrounded by friends and family.
I think Richard is taking it hard. Not only was he at RIT during the years of James Krenov's vendetta against Wendell, and trying to learn from both, but he became Wendell's assistant while still in school, and then his first full time assistant. There's a wonderful photo that serves as the center spread in one of the books. A great sprawling pile of furniture, outdoors, and Wendell and Richard looking so very, very young.

There are quite a few PM'rs who knew Wendell at some point, and spent time at his shop or had classes with him at various venues over the years. Completely separate from the body of woodwork, Wendell Castle was at heart a generous spirited, inquisitive soul with vision who inspired & pushed many on a personal basis, created opportunities, and made the world a better more interesting place for most of those who had the good fortune to interact with him.

Here's an RIT obit
