Spindle sander drums

Be interesting to hear what the quote is?

When I bought a States spindle sander at auction quite a few years ago, a set of Freemans spindles with rubber was quoted well over $1,000. Almost think it was close to $2,000 but don't have time to search the paperwork.

Since I had to make a new spindle (internal) anyway, I made it with a taper and thread to take Grizzly spindles. Got a complete set including rubber for somewhere around $250 at the time. Grizz used to sell spindles and rubber parts separately, too. As with most imports, some were perfect, some needed some tweaking (sanding the rubber round on center).

YMMV - times change & I have not bought from the Green Bear since they closed the Williamsport showroom.

I also have a State spindle sander but fortunately it came with all the spindles, I just wanted to replace one expanding rubber sleeve. And yes, I've always found Freeman to be a little expensive but convenient for me. I found another source called Suppergrit in Pennsylvania that has the rubber sleeves for a fair price.
