Forum suggestion: non professional machinist section

um… I get the issue and don’t necessarily disagree that dealing with it might very well be annoying. It’s the proposed solution that makes zero sense to me. Anyway as promised, I’m out and will let you wise folks determine your own fate. In the mean time I’ll continue to use the forum in a...

Forum suggestion: non professional machinist section

I see that you got and may agree with a few of my points. You may have missed some of the sarcasm ;-). The points about professionals were supposed to be humorous and about the question of who gets to decide "who is or isn't and based on what criteria". That's impossible to do successfully so...

    Weiler LZ 330 Thread dial

So I'm resurrecting this old thread because "of course" I'm in need of a threading dial as the proud new owner of a great condition 1961 Weiler LZ330 and it seems I'll be needing to make my own too. I get the 16 teeth as the lead screw is 4TPI (on mine anyway). I'm wanting to see the two gear...

Forum suggestion: non professional machinist section

No disrespect intended but I’d like to share my 2 cents on two points from the perspective of a novice and one that doesn’t utilize the forum all that often. 1) I’m not sure being paid to do something makes you any good at it…. Think about that the next time you call customer service for an...

What do you use in your ultrasonic cleaner

Oxyclean… never thought of that, I’m gonna try that today!

What do you use in your ultrasonic cleaner

Definitely depends on your goals. Ditto on the jar (plastic) idea. For oil grease and light surface rust my go to is kerosene. If there is anything remotely flammable I place the machine outside and suggest you do same. If it’s rust your after… I get better results from my electrolysis set up...

    Two machines, One thread pitch....

Cal here is a pic of the machine when I first got it home. Is this the same as your LZ330? So far everything has checked out within specs that I could find, everything is functioning correctly and its in pretty decent shape so I will move forward the restoration process. luckily it appears that...

Another "What is it" mystery tool

Just closing the loop on this latest mystery tool question. Thanks everyone for the great replies! That's exactly what they are. The large hole is go no-go for major dia. and then the round anvils were eccentric and for checking the thread depth. I can certainly see how much faster these would...

    Two machines, One thread pitch....

Oh i should have also mentioned that my particular machine does have the belt only selector for finer feeds and finishes which eliminates the gear train between the spindle and the gear box. Not sure if all older LZ type machines had this or not.

    Two machines, One thread pitch....

Thanks for the quick reply. I have a 1961 LZ330 VS (with the older style QCGB), two speed motor (2/4 hp) and the coolant pump option. What you sent seems to be mostly about a completely different machine, the matador. While I concede that some of the info. crosses over between machines, I don't...

    Two machines, One thread pitch....

I have new(to me) lz330. I seem to have all the gears with the lathe but they weren’t installed. I would love to see a few pictures of the gears installed so I could study how the different gear trains are set up.

No worries. Yes there are two different questions and members that you are responding to. I was asking a different question than littlemr.

Ummm :) either i just don't understand what you're trying to say or possibly you're not getting what I'm saying or asking for... I'm not trying to beat an opinion, I'm actually asking for one :). I've painstakingly taken the measurements and done the math I believe is appropriate to determine...

    Tailstock Taper

Yes I've seen and studied the charts in my handbook and black book. Based off of my measurements and the calculations I did I believe the only viable possibilities are Jarno 12, Jacobs 0, MT 1 or MT2. Because of the larger diameters of the sleeve I believe I should exclude the Jacobs and Morse...

    Tailstock Taper

Wow I sure do love this forum! A quick read through this and I think I've solved my own mystery! Hoping one of you will chime in and verify my conclusion.... I came across two spindle bore adapter/sleeves via a tool box purchase. They don't fit anything I have but hate to through things out...
