Wye start Delta run idler motor strategy for 20hp rpc

I don't mean to resurrect an old thread, but thought it's worth asking here for future readers. According to this pdf, the FLA of a 20 hp 230V motor is 54 A (same as OP's nameplate he posted picture of here) https://api.sprecherschuh.com/ecatalog/get/Other/hp-volts-fla_charts.pdf Now I've...

Self starting RPC problem, twin phase 460v supply

Hi. I'm in the UK so mostly familiar with what you are saying here. The 400 Delta/690 Wye motor is typical in the UK. As is 400 Delta only (very) and a few 230 Delta / 400 Wye (usually smaller newer motors). You say you have a 3 wire single phase supply with 460V line-line. I am curious about...

    Wanted to buy, Leonard Grind-R-Lap

I was trying to wrap my head around how the oscillating feature worked for a while, but couldn't find any good pics. I think I finally get it. The rubber lined eccentric wheel is pushed against the wheel rotating assembly and causes the whole drive unit to pivot side to side, relying on the...

    Baldor motor Wye or Delta?

Yes, 5 hp is a modest size for an idler, but I don't need to power much. I'm also looking at 10+ hp motors too, so its not set in stone. I'm in the UK and need 400V 3 phase to power the typical 3 phase machine, many machine motors are 400V delta only, not dual voltage. I have access to a 8kVA...

    Baldor motor Wye or Delta?

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking of using it as a phase converter idler motor. I specifically want a Y motor for that (whether or not that's significant is a different matter, there is a few opinions on it). At the end of the data sheet there is this page...

    Baldor motor Wye or Delta?

Hi, I'm looking at this Baldor motor: https://www.baldor.com/catalog/M3218T-50 Here's the PDF: https://www.baldorvip.com/servlet/productInfoPacket/M3218T-50.pdf Looking at the product PDF (on the last page) I can't figure out whether it's a Wye or Delta connected motor in the low (220) voltage...

    New forum BS

I too hate the new look. I hope it's just my initial reaction and it's not as bad as it comes across right now.

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

Sorry about the delay, just wanted to say thank you for your replies!

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

Yes that's what I thought. I am not trying to dynamically compensate for voltage drop. Just set it a bit higher to start with so it doesn't drop as low as without any voltage correction.

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

No, just trying to boost the two generated voltages a bit with no load so they don't drop as much under load.

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

That was actually my second question, I've seen 3 phase autotransformers with say taps for 380-400-420 or something similar like that. Say I get 240-220-210V out of the RPC, can I connect them to the 230V input taps, but on the secondary take off one from the 400 tap, and the other 2 from higher...

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

JST, Thanks for the reply. My plan is pony start the idler, balance the 240V three phase (with transformers in this case) and then use a step up 3 phase transformer to go to 400V 3 phase. I deliberately left the step-up (from 240 to 400) aspect out of this post, focusing only on balancing...

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

Hi, This is another thread on RPC balancing I know, but I've read lots of threads about it here and RPC leg balancing using transformers between individual legs isn't discussed much (sure it is mentioned from time to time). I know capacitors are usually used for balancing like the Fitch...

Heiz R Putz CNC videos. Where?

As per the title, where can I find Heinz's CNC learning videos/DVD's? I've seen the couple of vids on YouTube, but wondering where his full video are available from? I don't know if Heinz is still active on here, his last posts were from a couple yeas ago I think. And does anyone know how...

3 phase generator driven by single phase motor

You're right. I could just remove the hook from the end of the chain, attach a length of new chain to the end of the old one, pull through, and attach the hook back onto the new chain. I could even make it longer if I wanted. I didn't think of that, and I'm supposed to be a bike mechanic... I...
