    John Fenton in the UK wrote a number of books on the subject. There is also the book "Motor Vehicle Structures" by Brown, Robertson and Serpento.

    You can buy epicyclics at a reasonable price from this Japanese company. They work pretty well at the sort of torques you need. Matex supplies a wide variety of planetary gear reducers/increasers/transmissions and electric actuators.

    My Bolt hatchback is working great, no oil changes or timing belt needed. Gets over 80 to the mpge with 200 HP and if the electricity rate goes off peak at 6 cents then it doubles to 160 mpge. Oh and it's got a full tank every morning.

    I did a rack on my FP1 with a horizontal milling cutter which had the right "V" angle. A lot of work since it was done manually. Worked out the coordinates on the computer and printed them out for the three cuts needed for each tooth. Left angle cut, right angle cut and then use a slitting...

    Yeh right. They made the whole thing up just for grins. Of COURSE it is computer manipulated. How else do you combine data from multiple sources and make a presentable image for humans. We do not see in the UV and IR ranges for a start.
