Update: I am not sure what changed the lockup problem but I had changed much, looked under the rapid traverse clutch cover, moved the sump pump around and pulled the pulleys to confirm the motor wasn't the problem. When I put a pulley back on, the lockup was gone. Put the other pulley back on...

I just double checked and the problem occurs in the direction of the arrow on the sheave. This is also the direction of rotation under power.

I have seen the spindle rotate until the blockage is hit, this was under power at the time. This happened when I backed the motor up by hand and then engaged the power. I'll give the clutch a try.

When I "spin the motor" I have the right side door open and just manually turn the motor. I also put a tool holder in the spindle to get a hold on and spin the motor. The coolant pump that is in there has a separate power supply. I will look for signs of an old pump drive. I'm not sure what...
