    Coolant recommendation

Initially, I am thinking I will put fabric down on top of the sump. I expect I will be producing very fine chips in Ti and Steel. I checked out the filter baskets that sit on top of the sump made by Swarf Unlimited. Not sure if they make one to fit the new Mini Mill but, I might give them a...

For you guys running the filter fabrics to catch fines, what mesh do you prefer? Bob

    Coolant recommendation

Hmmmmm...I'm surprised you couldn't find it. My shop is right there on the left. ;)

    Coolant recommendation

Yes, it is the newly redesigned machine with external coolant tank, side windows and the 20 tool umbrella style tool changer. Sounds like most feel the brand of coolant is less important than how well it is maintained. I appreciate the "hacks" for keeping issues at bay. The aluminum tape is a...

    Coolant recommendation

Just got my new Haas Mini Mill delivered and I'm probably a few weeks from getting the tech out to do setup. I'm starting to think about coolant and curious what you guys know that I haven't considered. I do have a few gallons of Trim E205 concentrate left over from when I had the Matsuura and...

Best approach to cutting thin, deep slots in 6al4v?

I think you are absolutely right about the benefits of cutting this with wire. That would be my first choice and I thank you for mentioning some benefits I hadn't considered. I know many knifemakers who have these components waterjet as well. For the last ten years I've made all my knives by...

Best approach to cutting thin, deep slots in 6al4v?

There's been a couple recommendations for the Mikron CrazyMill. I took a look at it. I don't have through spindle coolant so I'm not sure it is the best choice for me. Anyone want to comment on the ability of the Mikron versus a Harvey of similar dimensions? I'm looking at this from Harvey...

Best approach to cutting thin, deep slots in 6al4v?

I won't argue with that but, I'm not willing to farm anything out and I don't have EDM. Maybe someday. Bob

Best approach to cutting thin, deep slots in 6al4v?

+/- .0015 is probably good. I'm going to be doing this frequently so, I need to get it dialed in. It is the lockbar slot on this bolster lock knife. Bob

Best approach to cutting thin, deep slots in 6al4v?

I was thinking more about tool breakage using an 8d.

Best approach to cutting thin, deep slots in 6al4v?

The pallet uses locating pins so, I think I can get the parts to align within a couple tenths. Running an 8D endmill in titanium seems like a huge waste of money. Do you think it makes any sense to try an .018" cutter and a 2d adaptive toolpath? Bob

Best approach to cutting thin, deep slots in 6al4v?

Anyone want to offer any advice for cutting a .025" slot through .1875" 6al4v? I have designed a multi part pallet that will allow the parts to be flipped so the slots only need to get half way through the material in each of the two ops. Will be cutting on a Haas Mini Mill with 10k spindle and...

    High altitude limitations on VMC?

    High altitude limitations on VMC?

I haven't asked my sales rep about it yet. I'm trying not to beat up on him too bad since I backed out on the MM2 to wait for the newly redesigned Mini Mill. He's been really good about calling the factory to get details on the new machine. I think he'll get some kind of answer on the altitude...

    High altitude limitations on VMC?

Guess there's no one with any real world experience running a VMC at high altitude. I do intend to ask the Haas rep to look into it. The machine will be out of the warranty period by the time it gets moved to my shop in the mountains but, I still want it to run well and produce accurate parts...
