Refurbishing a couple of HLV-EM lathes...

I'm interested but so must the rest of us over here! Where are you again? And what are you asking for it? Jacques

Change gears for GRAL swiss lathe

Oh well, the numbers are winning! I'm still a bit surprised, but I agree with you that it looks like 8tpi. Have fun getting more comfortable with your lathe. It certainly looks like a capable machine despite its size. Jacques

Change gears for GRAL swiss lathe

Hi Saji, I think it is pretty obvious that the gears are module 1mm gears. From what you tell us, the theoretical diameters should have been 129, 102, 42, and 27. If you use these numbers and do as I suggested before, i.e. divide by (number of teeth + 2), you always obtain 1mm per tooth. So I'm...

Change gears for GRAL swiss lathe

Are you sure it is an 8TPI leadscrew? It might be, but I suspect the pitch might be 3mm. It's a Swiss machine after all! That should be easy to ascertain by using a dial indicator on the bed and measuring the travel of the carriage when you turn the leadscrew a known number of times. Similarly...

Change gears for GRAL swiss lathe

It sounds like you are only interested in cutting imperial threads. Be that as it may, I hope that you realize that you were given the key to the metric thread kingdom with the 100T and 127T gears you have. Make sure you don't lose these while you complete your collection of gears. You can get...

    SK40 Collets: Have a 3/4", looking for a 1/2"

Hi Ross, I sent you a PM, which evidently called a "conversation" in this new paradigm. Jacques

    SK40 Collets: Have a 3/4", looking for a 1/2"

Hi, I recently found myself with an extra 3/4" SK40 collet for my Deckel FP1. I was wondering if anyone out there had a 1/2" SK40 collet they would like to trade for my 3/4". That would complete my collection from 1/4" to 3/4" by 1/8". Jacques

    Tooling to make split bushing

Bruce, If it was done "your" way. it would mean that the installation of the camshaft would have to be done with maybe 8 hands holding the shells on the shaft as you lower it into position. I'm sure someone could come up with a clever way to reduce the number of hands needed, but still it would...

Any thoughts on "digital transactions only" in the years ahead?

Sorry, I am a little late to this party, so if someone mentioned this before I apologize for repeating it. But what you are saying there has no common ground with reality. If you followed the Canadian government idiotic behavior in the Freedom Convoy saga, you would know that they did exactly...

OT: Do DC to DC chargers with voltage boosting included exist?

Thanks a lot everyone but a particular thanks to J_R. I can see a unit in there that takes 12 volts and charges at 48 volts and 17 amps max. That's the direction in which I have been looking. If my system caps at 15 amps as it does it would mean 720 Amps of charging power. That's already quite...

OT: Do DC to DC chargers with voltage boosting included exist?

This is an off topic question but I put it here because it is electrical only and that seems like the best sub-forum to ask. Please let me know if I should move it somewhere else. I bought a Ford Transit last summer to transform it into a campervan. I'm not turning it into a full on luxury RV...

Electronic leadscrew on a big boy lathe

Clough42 on youtube has one of the most recent implementation of electronic leadscrew. I followed some of the early videos in the series. I believe he sells a kit now. Check it out for yourself. Good luck Jacques
