    Vibration with toothed pulley

Just to provide some resolution: I changed the pulley out for a new one with a taper bushing (instead of a set screw) and it runs much smoother now. Must have been have been a bad pulley on the motor. Thanks for all the insight.

    Vibration with toothed pulley

Sorry to leave you all hanging. I adjusted the tension on the belt by loosening it. It did help, somewhat. but vibration remains. Took the belt off and confirmed that running the motor/pulley without a belt produces zero vibrations. I continued adjusting tension tighter and looser and got...

    Vibration with toothed pulley

Seems like an easy thing to check. I will get back with any updates.

    Vibration with toothed pulley

Hey all, I changed my mill from a poly-V belt to a timed pulley - HTD5. The poly belt was slipping during tapping cycles on larger taps. The timing belt is working great except for one thing: I am getting a noticible amount of vibration in one specific speed range. Outside of this range...

    MQL & Rust

The bucket is in a not-so-handy location behind the machine. I thought about agitating it or adding a "bubbler" or something. But was hoping for an easier route of changing the solution. I used to use a cutting oil thinned with kerosene for lathe work, but you're right, probably hard on the...

    MQL & Rust

I have a home-brew CNC machine that I outfitted with a fogbuster-like setup. The water filter and needle valve setup. I've been slowly working though a gallon of Rustlick that I've had on hand. I've been mixing it heavy, something like 5:1, to try avoiding rust. My problem is that I only use...

    Gear cutting not centered

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll chuck it back up on the mill and recut it. Centered this time, of course.

    Gear cutting not centered

Hoping you experts can help with some advice. I have a 10" Logan lathe that did not come with the original gears. Imperial threading works just fine with the gears it came with, even though they are not stock gears. However, it did not come with the change gears for metric threading. So I set...

    Another Spindle Bearing thread

The mock-up isn't mine, but one pulled off the interwebz. So I can't assure accuracy. The original bearings were ALL deep groove radial. I replaced the front set of 3 with matched AC bearings in a TBT configuration. 2 facing rear, 1 facing front. Thanks for the input, seems like the idea of...

    Another Spindle Bearing thread

This is what got me stuck. Should I flip one of the bearings so they are not tandem, rather back-to-back. Or replace them with standard radial groove bearings? In a back-to-back arrangement, the outer races would be forced against each other, but could still float as a set. The downside, is...

    Another Spindle Bearing thread

So I got a BT30 spindle of the import kind similar to this: ATC spindle BT30 Spindle CNC Milling Rounter Electric Spindle Motor 220V with Belt for BT30 Spring + Drawbar|motor 220v|220v motor|220v electric motor - AliExpress The bearings were OK. But I desired to upgrade. So I go some matched...
