Source needed for small qty Derlin

I use Delrin rod in 3" and under diameters around the shop for spacers in tooling and fixtures. It is faster and easier than aluminum and works for my needs. But a 8 foot length would last me 10 years. Does anyone have a source for Delrin or similar for sale by the foot? I don't mind paying...

SEMI OT:Heading to AmmoExpo in Vegas

I felt the aquarium at Mandalay Bay was well worth the admission price. I enjoyed the King Tut exhibit at the Luxor too. Coke museum is a fun store.

    Small Scale anodizing

Instead of andodize try KG Gunkote. Comes in all kinds of colors. Easy to apply, looks good and is probably as durable as the home anodize. Plus the whole set up fits in a shoebox on a shelf for storage. I've used it for years on all kinds of metals. Hard commercial anodize is harder and more...

    surface grinding in a mill

Why? It would not be any more accurate than a milled surface. Are you trying to shape something very hard?

    Telemarketers and the shop phone.

Well, I found out that I can at least keep the unavailable or no info calls from ringing through. Costs 10.00 a month but makes the caller enter their proper ID before letting the call through. If a listed number calls it rings through normal. Won't stop them all but will help.

    Telemarketers and the shop phone.

I have a one man shop. I need to get my customer calls. But the telemarketers are getting to be a pain. All day I will get calls (many of which are scams with spoofed caller ID numbers). I have to stop what I am doing, wipe off my hands and walk across the shop to answer a call that turns out to...

How to fix ball on vise handle?

Take the handle out and turn down both ends .100 smaller for a distance equal to ball diameter you want plus .020. This gives you a shaft with a reduced area on each end. Make 2 balls whatever diameter you want and drill through them at the reduced shank diameter. End up so the balls are a...

    acid eaten steel sculpture

How big is it? Warm supersaturated alum solution will eat steel pretty quick. I would not want to have to do it on a large surface like a wall though. If large, what about an air hammer and beat the edges up and cut parts with a torch? Then use paint and such to get the colors and look you...

I want to improve my machinist skills

I think I'll pass on the oyster sorter. Hard to research here in AZ. I have a lot of machining books I have read. Thanks for the title suggestions. I like to keep reference and how to books around.

    Self Insured

To get lower than that you will have to go with an HMO. I did and mine would be around 450/mth with a 2K deductible. My insurance provider is subsidized by the state for the self employed. You might try checking with the state.

I want to improve my machinist skills

Do you have a project suggestion? Something useful and not too advanced that can be made on standard shop equipment? I know when I was in school we had projects that combined all the basic skills we needed. We made a tool makers vise, a micrometer type reamer stop and some other simple stuff...

I want to improve my machinist skills

I am not a machinist. I can do work on mills, lathes ect and have done a small (very small) amount of simple CNC programing. I have the skills I need for my job. Basic turning, threading, milling flats and dovetails. But I would like top become much more rounded in my manual machine skills...

PM to the rescue again. Alum and drills

I broke a 1/16 drill off deep in a through hole on a complex aluminum part. Too far in to mill out with a carbide endmill and one wall was pretty thin so a walking carbide spade drill would have ruined the part. Found the alum solution advice in the archives and tried it. Worked like a charm...
