Servo draws too much current near edges of machine.

There seemed to be plenty of oil on all the turcite (gibb + 2x pressure bars from underneath)that I inspected. The photo's are after I cleaned it well, but it remained stained reddish. The damage to the corner does look like it got caught on a chip or smashed by something at some point. I...

Servo draws too much current near edges of machine.

I attached a couple pictures. I pulled out the Gibb bar to inspect and I can see a little bit of damage to the turcite at one end. Its kind of smushed for about a 1/2" in length but I don't think it is a big problem ??? More interesting is all the red rusty sludge that came out with it. The...

Servo draws too much current near edges of machine.

UPDATE: I put a 0.002" shim between the underside pressure plate before reattaching. The servo current draw remains @ 30% when jogging X through most of its travel and worst case gets to about 70% at one end. I'm not sure if this is going to affect surface finish or chatter in my cuts if the...

Servo draws too much current near edges of machine.

My theory is that the ways are worn more in the middle and therefore looser. Reasonable?

I'm trying to upload some photos. Apologies if this doesn't work. Aaron

Servo draws too much current near edges of machine.

The machine has box ways. There aren't any chips packed in, I thought of checking that first :) I'm pretty sure its a lubrication issue being lessened in the middle of travel by wear. The ball screw is fine and there's no binding there. I removed the turcite covered pressure plates from...

Servo draws too much current near edges of machine.

Yes, this machine is box ways, no linear rails. Chips are cleaned out so it's not packing. The table is very difficult to move by hand when disconnected from the ball screw. I can put my back on the wall and push with both feet against it without moving it when it's at the end of travel. I'm...

Servo draws too much current near edges of machine.

I have a 1999 Bridgeport VMC800 with Fanuc 18i control. I've been getting an over-current alarm 436 - Soft Thermal occasionally on the X-axis and I've figured that it only seems to happen when I have left the table sitting near the travel limits of the X-axis for a minute or so. I'm not sure...
