Looking for an older drill press of the sort shown in the illustration. Doesn't have to be in pristine condition. Should be a full height floor model with a large cast iron table and a crank to raise and lower the table. Could be a 15, 17, or 20 inch model, with step pulleys or variable speed...
Look up the cut knurling instructions from Zeus and others. The initial setup for cut knurling is quite finicky. If you are cutting a knurl in the middle of a part, you will need to cut a groove in front of the knurled section at least as deep as the full knurl depth and chamfer the left edge of...
JST--thanks for your reply. No symptoms--just suddenly stopped working, no lights, no nothing. Remote fwd/off/rev switch plus potentiometer for speed control. Of course, one of the first things I did was check the shop circuit breakers--all OK there. What I didn't do, until after I posted this...
So I was just starting a cut on my lathe when the Hitachi WJ200-022SF VFD/inverter went dead. I unplugged it, waited a minute, then plugged it back in with no result. It's a 2.2KW model with 220V single phase input and 220V three phase output, and drives a 3 horsepower motor. Been working fine...
This isn't something I've given much thought to in the past, but now that I'm looking to replace my drill press I was wondering if there's any advantage (or disadvantage) to a drill press with an extended spindle. Thanks for any information that might enlighten me.
Looking for a floor model variable-speed drill press along the lines of the one shown in the picture, preferably within a couple of hour's drive of Seattle. Not particular as to size; should have a crank-operated table with thru-slots or t-slots, and quill travel of at least 4 inches. Best way...
Do an internet search and you will find some good info about the variator drive in the Colchester Chipmaster/Harrison 10AA lathes. Apparently many of the variators in these lathes have failed. Whether this is simply due to long-term wear or a lack of robustness in the design is anybody's guess...
This forum (and the world) is a better place when we celebrate our common interest (in this case, machining) and leave our preconceived notions and prejudices at the door.
Hamidjahan--
If you can provide more information about the purpose and function of the part you are making, people...
This is a Jacobs spindle nose Rubber Flex collet chuck that will mount to an L00 lathe spindle. It will handle stock diameters up to 1 3/8" (35mm), and will handle metric and imperial sizes with the same set of 11 collets (not included), which may be found on ebay and elsewhere. The collet...
As others have suggested, just make one. I made the one pictured from aluminum, using a bandsaw and a file (I don't have a milling machine). A rod screws into the side of the carriage stop clamp to act as a hard stop, and stores in the clamp itself when I want to use the dial indicator instead...
I showed my daughter how to make earrings from copper plumbing pipe. She annealed a short section with a propane torch, cut it open, flattened it, cut out the shape and hammered it, shined it up, selectively oxidized it with the torch, then sprayed it with a clear protective coating.
I guess it's a quirk of mine, but I hate having to readjust the tool cutting edge back to center height when I swap out tools in a holder--ergo the large number of holders. The lathe is a Colchester Chipmaster, 11" swing. Currently using an Aloris-style AXA-sized system, which works fine...
