I can't imagine Livermore would have run ALL the life out of a machine like it might have gotten in industry. Probably got oil changes and maintenance too.
There are quite a few of us 12C owners here so you are in good company.

If the lathe fairies came and offered to swap a 10EE for my old CK I would not do it. If a guy has room and money to own a couple of lathes an EE would be nice.
But for an only lathe they are just too small.
And I wouldn't want the overly complex...

As to the price you paid, consider that there was a dirty 6" South Bend on CL last week that didn't show much tooling with it and was an old gear change model. They were asking $1300 for it. Dunno...
