Seeking recommendations on non-Chinese 1/8" solid parallel set

Sorry, fella, but if you are willing to drop $400 on a set of parallels just because of where they come from, you are an idiot. I have never once seen you question quality. Just origin. Stupid. Taiwanese is even the bottom of the line for you and they make some of the best shit out there...

Making sense of Grainger threaded rod

I've heard a lot of their ads as well, and none from McMaster. In this day and age, a strong website beats 15 second radio blurbs in my book. If I go to McMaster, I can easily find what I'm looking for, and what spec it confirms to. Going to Grainger's website is like a DIY colonoscopy.

Making sense of Grainger threaded rod

Good luck with Grainger. Personally, I don't know how they are still in business.

    OT: Memorial Day wishes

As a vet from a long line of vets, I want to wish all my fellow chip-eating vets a happy Memorial Day. This weekend, crawfish boil and raising a glass. I'll raise a glass to Samuel Durst who fought almost the entire Civil War and died drinking poisoned cream in a cafe. I'll raise a glass to...

Seeking recommendations on non-Chinese 1/8" solid parallel set

    You completely avoided my point.

Forum format change in regards to how Likes are displayed?

I think the envelope next to the alert bell is your mailbox. I'm not sure because I'm unloved and don't get mail. If you tap on the circle icon next to someone's screen name, there is a link to start a conversation with them.

Forum format change in regards to how Likes are displayed?

You will get an alert that tells you who reacted to or quoted your post. I find the quote alert quite handy.

Seeking recommendations on non-Chinese 1/8" solid parallel set

You really have no guarantees that one set of parallels is going to exactly match another set of parallels, regardless of what you buy and, personally, I'm doubling up parallels all the time. I don't think I've ever scrapped a part and blamed it on a bad parallel. My point is really this...

Seeking recommendations on non-Chinese 1/8" solid parallel set

A parallel is a parallel. As long as they are within the advertised tolerance, they are as good as any other parallel. If they aren't, return them. Whether you consider it helpful or not, and whether you prefer to read it or not, it is truth.

Slightly OT: Has the specification for wire gauge changed?

I imagine someone probably spends a lot of time sitting in the dark with a bag of frozen peas on his face.

New to programming a horizontal - Can I program to center line while having the part not centered?

Not sure exactly what kind of a setup you have, but we don't set origins on our horizontals. Everything is programed off center of rotation and top of pallet, regardless of where the parts are on the tombstone and different work offsets are really just a rotation of the tool plane. Do you not...

How much does coolant toxicity matter?

Been using MB50 for years. Have no problems with it. I don't think the coolant is as much of an issue as what is in the coolant. Whatever coolant you use, if you let it get loaded with rancid tramp oil, bacteria, people using it as a spitoon, and God knows what other kinds of science projects...

    new format - a thumbs-down

Been 2 days since I got myself a trophy. My palms are starting to itch. Clammy sweats. Gettin' hungry.

    Granite surface plate cleaner?

I use the same granite cleaner my wife buys at Menards to clean our countertops. Making the granite into a surface table rather than a countertop doesn't magically change the stone.

    New forum BS

People sure seem to be taking this seriously. Reading a lot of the comments about a software update is kind of like watching CNN the night Trump was elected.

    new format - a thumbs-down

CTRL+scroll adjusts the size of the screen to whatever you prefer. I've got a burr under my saddle because I had to remember my login and password before I could post. I'm not a man who relishes being inconvenienced. If it had been more than once, I might have been on a water tower with a...

Feed Rate for .012" Ball Endmill

Just think how much time you could have saved if you had ran your spindle at about 12k. Supercharged that pencil grinder. :willy_nilly:

Own a few machines; wondering if a business partnership is best (I am w/o exp.)

Sounds like you aren't planning to open a job shop, but have the machines support your robotics endeavors? I run an OEM machine shop to strictly to support the company's products. None of the people I work for would even know how to turn their machines on. That is why they pay me. You don't...
