    Atlas Shaper Index Centers

The one I originally posted is definitely an Atlas Shaper accessory. The Atlas indexing center from Jim's post is for a milling machine. Mine has its own bed and clamps on both sides, so it's not an Aamco which clamps via a center T slot.

    Atlas Shaper Index Centers

What are you seeing that indicated that it's an Aamco/Rockwell fixture rather than an Atlas fixture? To my eye it matched the photo in the Atlas catalog.

    Disappearing interference fit

I don't have the pulley and shaft to examine myself, but my friend has been following this thread and emailed me that the shaft doesn't look like it was shaved by pressing the pulley back on. He said when I was doing something else on the alternator he was cleaning the pulley and shaft and...

    Disappearing interference fit

Yeah. I know what you're saying. My friend said they're so common that rebuilt ones are roughly $50. BUT..... We're both retired guys and the bearings cost less than $10. Our labor is worth nada. He's already put a rebuilt one in his van. This original one is going to be the spare rather...

    Disappearing interference fit

I don't have it back from my friend, but steel as far as I know. Definitely ferrous. It was too heavy to be zamak or aluminum.

Boesheild T-9, Jug or Aerosol Can?

I'm told that this stuff is what was used for the Rusty Jones treatment on cars https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/paralketone.php It's gone up quite a bit in price since I last bought a quart. I don't know how that compares in price to Boeshield.

    Disappearing interference fit

I put new bearings in an old (1968) Dodge/Chrysler alternator for a friend. The pulley was held onto the shaft by an interference fit and I used a 2 jaw puller to remove it. It was not easy to pull and the lip that's there to pull it with bent a little from the force. I don't recall the...

Calibrate / Adjust Starrett Digi-Chek 258 Height Gage

I fixed mine, but I only have it because I got it inexpensively so I'm not the best person to make a tutorial on all the different ways it's used. With regard to the bore gage however, the typical way you use them is to set your micrometer at the desired measurement, put the bore gage in the...

Boyar Schultz 612 -Spindle Bearing Replacment

I'm assuming you have one with direct driver rather than belt drive and you're trying to figure out how to get the motor off. Mine has belt drive so what I say is from memory of reading other posts. On the column of the grinder there will be a few holes on one side. You have to raise or lower...

Boyar Schultz 612 -Spindle Bearing Replacment

I didn't have a good parts breakdown to work from. I'll email you the poorly readable parts diagrams I worked from when I did mine. If anybody has a legible spindle diagram, please share it with the group.

    Need manual, Anilam "Wizard" DRO

If somebody has a copy, I'd be interested in seeing them too, but I think the best you can hope for are my instructions above on how mine worked.

    Atlas Shaper Index Centers

A couple of extra photos now that I have the correct index plates for this and the locking pin. To the best of my knowledge, there were only two plates ever supplied with these devices, one with 28 and 48 holes and one with 30 and 36 holes. The index plate is keyed to the spindle via a pin in...

    Atlas Shaper Index Centers

I'd be glad to have the indexing plates, but Dave Vincent spotted your offer first. If he doesn't take them, I will. To those who messaged me off line. I posted this out of general interest because you don't find information about these on the web. It admittedly doesn't fit the table on my...

    Atlas Shaper Index Centers

OK. Last two photos. You can see a keyway used to align the device to the shaper's table in the bottom of the one rail. In the other you can see that the handle to spin it has a lock collar that you can hand tighten. The index plate has a keyway that locks it to the spindle.

    Atlas Shaper Index Centers

I picked this indexing device up so many years ago that I can't remember where I got it. No doubt it looked useful to me at the time. Until recently when I ran across a picture of an Atlas Indexing Center for their 7" shaper I didn't know what I had. When I went to read about it on the web...

    Boyar Schultz 612 Spindle Rebuild

Those pictures will be helpful for the next person. What does the connection for the motor look like inside the column? Is that amenable to a photo?

    Boyar Schultz 612 Spindle Rebuild

I've only read about that type. My recollection is that you gain access to the fasteners holding the motor in place via holes in the sides of the column that are currently closed with round covers. You may have to slide the spindle up or down to get them lined up. Take photos for the group...

Looking at a Logan and need opinions on price?

I can't tell much from the low resolution photos, but in general, in our area a lathe of that size and vintage would be priced at $800-$1000. It looks like it has a quick change toolpost, but are there tool holders that come with it. I can't tell if it has a quick change gearbox for the lead...
