    Wanted to buy, Leonard Grind-R-Lap

I was trying to wrap my head around how the oscillating feature worked for a while, but couldn't find any good pics. I think I finally get it. The rubber lined eccentric wheel is pushed against the wheel rotating assembly and causes the whole drive unit to pivot side to side, relying on the...

    Baldor motor Wye or Delta?

Yes, 5 hp is a modest size for an idler, but I don't need to power much. I'm also looking at 10+ hp motors too, so its not set in stone. I'm in the UK and need 400V 3 phase to power the typical 3 phase machine, many machine motors are 400V delta only, not dual voltage. I have access to a 8kVA...

    Baldor motor Wye or Delta?

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking of using it as a phase converter idler motor. I specifically want a Y motor for that (whether or not that's significant is a different matter, there is a few opinions on it). At the end of the data sheet there is this page...

    Baldor motor Wye or Delta?

Hi, I'm looking at this Baldor motor: https://www.baldor.com/catalog/M3218T-50 Here's the PDF: https://www.baldorvip.com/servlet/productInfoPacket/M3218T-50.pdf Looking at the product PDF (on the last page) I can't figure out whether it's a Wye or Delta connected motor in the low (220) voltage...

    New forum BS

I too hate the new look. I hope it's just my initial reaction and it's not as bad as it comes across right now.

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

Sorry about the delay, just wanted to say thank you for your replies!

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

Yes that's what I thought. I am not trying to dynamically compensate for voltage drop. Just set it a bit higher to start with so it doesn't drop as low as without any voltage correction.

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

No, just trying to boost the two generated voltages a bit with no load so they don't drop as much under load.

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

That was actually my second question, I've seen 3 phase autotransformers with say taps for 380-400-420 or something similar like that. Say I get 240-220-210V out of the RPC, can I connect them to the 230V input taps, but on the secondary take off one from the 400 tap, and the other 2 from higher...

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

JST, Thanks for the reply. My plan is pony start the idler, balance the 240V three phase (with transformers in this case) and then use a step up 3 phase transformer to go to 400V 3 phase. I deliberately left the step-up (from 240 to 400) aspect out of this post, focusing only on balancing...

Balancing RPC generated legs with Variacs or buck/boost

Hi, This is another thread on RPC balancing I know, but I've read lots of threads about it here and RPC leg balancing using transformers between individual legs isn't discussed much (sure it is mentioned from time to time). I know capacitors are usually used for balancing like the Fitch...

Heiz R Putz CNC videos. Where?

As per the title, where can I find Heinz's CNC learning videos/DVD's? I've seen the couple of vids on YouTube, but wondering where his full video are available from? I don't know if Heinz is still active on here, his last posts were from a couple yeas ago I think. And does anyone know how...

3 phase generator driven by single phase motor

You're right. I could just remove the hook from the end of the chain, attach a length of new chain to the end of the old one, pull through, and attach the hook back onto the new chain. I could even make it longer if I wanted. I didn't think of that, and I'm supposed to be a bike mechanic... I...

3 phase generator driven by single phase motor

Yes, I never like to strain myself, because it's dangerous, and actually pointless! You have to have a method and tools whether it's 200 lb or 2000 lb. Anything else is a disaster waiting to happen. Which reminds me, there is a cool old Morris ''Levalift'' 1.5 ton chain hoist locally going...

3 phase generator driven by single phase motor

That's pretty cool from a woman. LOL! Well it looks like I'm not gonna run into any problems just running the 10hp idler without any caps to power up to 3hp max load motors, most likely 1-2hp anyway. However wiring the motor for wye and connecting 240 across ONE winding from line to star point...

3 phase generator driven by single phase motor

Jim, I'll keep that in mind. I'll have to buy at least one clamp-on meter to have though. I think it would make a nice addition to my Amprobe muultimeter and would come in handy for all kinds of jobs, as I'll be playing with iron until I die. Thanks Aryan

3 phase generator driven by single phase motor

I think I'll go ahead and wire up this 415V delta motor for wye, and put 240 across ONE winding (i.e line to star point), so it will act as a ''step up RPC'' as JST put it. There is only one way to fin out what will happen. I will look for a 1 hp pony motor and build some kind of a frame around...

3 phase generator driven by single phase motor

Johansen, Thanks for the info. I don't know if you watched the video that I linked to (11 minute mark) but I was wondering if connecting 240V single phase between the line and neutral of a wye wired motor (as shown in that video) was a done thing, or if it was an odd way of doing it. It's...

3 phase generator driven by single phase motor

Thanks for the post, it is encouraging to hear you've had success with RPC for such a long time. I just bought a 10 hp 4-pole 1500 RPM (50 hz) for an idler. Nameplate says 380-440 Delta, but the back of the connection box cover has cast-in wye and delta symbols and connection graphics. I dob't...

3 phase generator driven by single phase motor

Thank you all for your input in this thread. After thinking about it, I realize it was mostly a theoretical day dream, of walking in the shop, flicking s switch to a single phase motor, and having ''real'' 3 phase out of a quiet running generator to power a few machines in the 3 hp range...
