    new format - a thumbs-down

I highly doubt that, unless their goal is to drive people away in which case they are doing great job!

    new format - a thumbs-down

So I log in today and forum titles are again with condensed font and hard to read 🤦‍♂️ You guys need to get your act together. So far its a shit show. Get someone to help you with actual usability design. If you don't know what you are doing stick with best practices. If you do not know what...

    new format - a thumbs-down

I don't care about trophy crap either, but biggest issue is that whole forum is less readable. And for the medium where reading is the only way you access it, making it less readable is shooting yourself in the foot. Concrete example, the narrow font selection for the forum titles. Narrow font...

UMC-500 flooding, not ready for production

So after nearly a year of running this in unattended production I can say UMC-500 is utter shit for that. If you are going to run it with operator it will do decent job and can be used like that. If you plan to deploy it in unattended operation with robot etc. forget about it. Its crap. 1. Tool...

    Looking at a new UMC-500

We have one and been using it in production for close to a year. Chip conveyor and chip evacuation is bad. You need much better chip conveyor to get chips to evacuate otherwise watch for floods in the shop. Uncontrolled Z-axis growth is still unsolved and they have no clue what is causing it...

    vaccine mandate

Except, we don't know why unvaccinated were not vaccinated. Is it possible they were unvaccinated because they could not be vaccinated in which case that would indicate a sicker and more frail which would virus take easier anyway? This stuff is not simple.

    vaccine mandate

From science, it looks like natural immunity is stronger than vaccine, see this. Vaccine targets only the top of the spike protein which is the thing that mutates on corona viruses. All vaccines today are for the initial variant of virus and none are targeting the mutations. Natural immunity...

    Brother BT30 basic machining parameters

You should be running your machine in metric, not in those godless imperial units. When Moses came from mount Sinai he came with 10 commandments, not with 3/8! Notice 10 commandments, the God commanded 10 based system, METRIC! :D The parameters they use are to illustrate what is possible. I am...

    Brother BT30 basic machining parameters

They are really going after it with feeds and speeds, not playing around.

    UMC 1000 Experience

They have some fix available that they installed on my UMC500 but the problem is still not fixed. Service told me they are still working on ultimate fix, but if OP was working with them for last 6 months, this might be a bigger problem than we know since fixing and testing something like this...

UMC-500 flooding, not ready for production

Let me add something on a positive note. We interpolate bearing bore and its day in and day out within 3-4 microns, most of the time around 2 microns, so a tenth. That's not bad at all.

UMC-500 flooding, not ready for production

Again, nope. This is quote from last year for GF Machining Solutions Mikron MILL E 500 U which we explored among others before ordering UMC-500. Not even close to UMC-500 pricing. Yes, but its a kludge and it takes too long. One should not need to do such things, Haas or not.

UMC-500 flooding, not ready for production

Sounds like you guys are very insecure with your choice and are looking for a way to justify the decision you feel was poor so you come into the thread that has nothing to do with Mikron and start justifying your choice to make yourself feel better. Nobody in their right mind pays $320k for...

UMC-500 flooding, not ready for production

You included Pallet pool for Haas and only God knows what else there, how much is that on Mikron??? And that's Haas list price, you always get 25% at least discount on top. You really can't argue it man, you can buy 2-3 UMC-500's for single Mikron. Nobody in the right mind thinks Haas is better...

UMC-500 flooding, not ready for production

You must be high and you are not sharing what you are smoking with us, shame on you :D Loaded up UMC-500 with almost all options available is about ~$138,506

UMC-500 flooding, not ready for production

Not really. You can buy 2-3 UMC-500's for 1 Mikron. Mikron MILL E 500 U is from $247,320 to $345,060 depending on options... And its 3+2 machine.

UMC-500 flooding, not ready for production

Our UMC-500 is triggering tool breakage detection set to 0.0078" because of the growth. I had to set it to 0.5mm ~0.02" just for detection to be able to pass on tools that are not broken.

UMC-500 flooding, not ready for production

I haven't measured it, but this is not the only machine in the shop and no other machine shows any Z-movement like this. Not Brother, not Doosan and not Matsuura.

UMC-500 flooding, not ready for production

I am afraid I see more than that, more like 0.2mm or more which is huge. Machine is anchored. I did not have time to get to the bottom of the problem yet and demand the solution, but the difference is so big that is triggering tool break detection when I had it set at 0.1mm and 0.2mm and I don't...
