Removing "smeared" aluminum from CNC mill window.

Tried Vanisol (High Acid Toilet Bowl Cleaner) since I know it'll clean aluminum out of the flutes of a cutting tool. It didn't seem to work, but I was also afraid to let it sit for any length of time, on a fairly new $1M machine. I'll try the steel wool tomorrow. I use that on my car windows...

Removing "smeared" aluminum from CNC mill window.

I believe its 2 panes of real glass. Inside is definitely glass. I think I have Brasso at home, I'll give that a shot. That's interesting. Is it the tempered glass ones, or plastic ones? I can't imagine either holding up when getting pelted with chips. And both of those would be safe for...

Removing "smeared" aluminum from CNC mill window.

I'm doing some pretty heavy aluminum roughing on an HMC. The chips blasting the window has caused the aluminum to kind of smear, or gall on the window. I thought it was getting scratched, or frosted at first, but it's definitely built up aluminum. Any suggestions for removing this? I've...

    Mastercam popularity

I cannot, for the life of me figure out how you guys are capable of producing CAM files with 500-1000 toolpaths, in 8-16 hours. It has taken me much, much longer than that.

    Mastercam popularity

That makes sense. I suppose the type of parts, and type of shop matter a lot in this case. We make a lot of parts with lots of complexity, where it wouldn't be worth reprogramming so we do our best to always keep the MC files current because we get a lot of rev changes. I'm currently working...

What happens when you leave, and the company needs to change something in one of those programs, and nobody knows how to use CAMWorks?

Roughing, Climb only or both ways?

Do you all feel that this applies to indexable tooling as well? I do a lot of roughing with large Ingersoll HiPos Alu cutters on a very large part, and spend a lot of time on transition moves. https://www.ingersoll-imc.com/product-lines/hipos-alu

    Anyone tapping Spiralock threads?

This was a gentleman I spoke to when I called the tech support line. I would imagine that wouldn't have been a salesman. Depending on the job, sometimes we'll use the Emuge tap anyways. On some where we really had no choice but to use the Stanley taps, I actually thread-milled the holes...

    Anyone tapping Spiralock threads?

Before calling someone names, maybe you should learn to read the posts better. He very clearly stated that SPIRALOCK taps are made under license. Not EMUGE SELF-LOCK. It's been a long time since I've since I've seen someone so confident about being wrong. I have no doubt your taps are of...

Roughing, Climb only or both ways?

Not sure what's available as far as sizes, and I have nothing against the GWS endmills recommended by @crossthread82 but I've been using quite a bit of Garr's new A3 endmills. They don't offer them in coated, but they have a very high polished finish, and I haven't noticed any BUE. Check them out.

Ellison Rant.......can't deliver on getting a new lathe up and running.

We have Mosnic conveyors with drum filters on our Yasda's and love them. The LNS Turbo on our Matsuura is dreadful.

    Anyone tapping Spiralock threads?

I was going through this issue awhile back. Our customers print specifically called out the spec (NASM 85353/1) that specifies the Stanley Spiralock thread profile. I called, and spoke to one of the engineers at Emuge, who told me they accomplish the same end result, but the angle of the...

    Are milling chucks obsolete?

a 1/2" endmill roughing at only 10% radial? I would absolutely run that tool in an ER holder all day long. But I would never rough in aluminum at 10% stepover.

    Are milling chucks obsolete?

I don't buy it at all. The steeper angle makes a big difference, and I don't buy that the second angle on an ER collet does a whole lot. There's also a reason why Big Daishowa is discontinuing their ER line.

fretting marks on toolholders, problem? how to fix?

I'm glad I came across this thread. I use the maroon scotchbrite on all kinds of things, as its what we have in the shop. Guess I'll get some of the grey stuff.

    checking end mills for runout

They're not ultra high-end but I definitely wouldn't call them "economy at best". Their VX7 endmills beat lots of higher end tooling by a long shot in an apples to apples comparison in some Invar parts we make. I agree, this seems like you're having a bad experience, but they're not "value"...

    Matsuura decline

We have an H.Plus-500, relatively new (about 2-3 years),and I've been very disappointed. Unfortunately, I think it is due to our reseller, more than Matsuura themselves. West coast Matsuura support seems to be far superior to east coast. I also feel like our machine may have been a bit of a...

    Carvesmart Jaws not repeating

Good to know, thank you. I assumed they just sell the carvesmart jaws, didn't know they made their own.
