Canned Cycle Drilling on G19 Plane with Right Angle Head

Are you in G94 (feed per time)? G95 (Feed per spindle revolution) would look awfully fast if you were in fact feeding at 5" per revolution.

    Ear Buds

Competing boomboxes are terrible, and were banned at the day-job years ago. If I'm working around others, earbuds in. They're probably 1/2 to 2/3 as effective as for-real earplugs, so that's a benefit. Like all things, a small dose of common sense goes a long way. When I need to focus in on...

Would This be Profitable to Sell?

I think it's a neat idea. But the photos from the first post aren't $300-$500 worthy. Find a way to make them more upscale. Not necessarily "fancier" but somehow more polished, etc. Think Rolex, iPhone levels of finish, and minimal, yet obsessive detail. Someone would pay $300-$500 for them...

I'm tired. Tired and I don't think I have any left in me, to give my company

As a born & raised Kentucky resident, I can't tell you the sum total amount of time I've spent confused over the years regarding KY jelly. Eventually I figure it out, and then, "Oh yeah, now it makes sense..." :dopeslap: Something to do with an ancient Chinese proverb: "He who laughs last...

I'm tired. Tired and I don't think I have any left in me, to give my company

THIS... It cracks me up observing the "gym junkies." I work with a guy - good guy, a couple years younger than me, but pretty 'swole from the gym. Ask him to break some big M16-M20 bolts loose, and get ready for a laugh. Actually much better now than a few years ago, but it's funny watching...

I'm tired. Tired and I don't think I have any left in me, to give my company

Not an expert at this stuff by any means - My wife is more knowledgeable - but perhaps a recommendation or two... 1- Collagen and/or Glucosamine/Chondroitin- It's supposed to lubricate your joints. Might help with the back & hips? Probably useful with the cycling as well... 2- Melatonin at...

Business Strategy/Entrepreneurship thread for metal shops

I just wish I'd have come to that conclusion a decade ago, and had the gumption to get _something_ started. Before 2 kids, tuition payments, 2022 health insurance & everything else...

I'm tired. Tired and I don't think I have any left in me, to give my company

Not a machine shop owner, but I don't see how one could walk away after sinking 180k of personal finances into the business. Yes, do go take some time off to let the nerves rest. Then come back and raise your prices significantly. Maybe cut the employee's OT, as summer is around the corner...

Plunge rough... d yo guys use it?

It works great for long tools. Doesn't need to be a high-feed cutter, or even a specially-designed plunge-milling cutter. (Though the do even better.) You can do it with any square-shoulder cutter really.

TNR Comp on G01 Round Movements

 Whoa now - Where can we see more of THIS? :drool5:

TNR Comp on G01 Round Movements

I was going to stick up for you regarding your point about the tool leaving the surface on external chamfers, and this possibility of causing a hypothetical burr. Yes I am aware of that possibility. No, I have never seen it ever create a real life problem. If it did create a problem, I would...

TNR Comp on G01 Round Movements

Bro, you must be new... ;) There is no limit to how cranky old, bored, bored, machinists can become, over the most inconsequential things... Now, go make (good) parts!

Decent 3+2 mill for small parts?

The 5" face-mill could have an aluminum body. They are fairly common in high-rpm face mill tools.

TNR Comp on G01 Round Movements

One has to start somewhere. I, nor anyone else that I've ever met was running the 4x400, or doing the pole-vault while still in diapers. I think it goes, crawl, walk, run, then track & field star... RE Z-negative... It makes as much sense on the lathe, as in mills, programming the top of your...

TNR Comp on G01 Round Movements

I have comp'd programs to avoid G41/G42. Mills & lathes. But it requires a deeper level of understanding & requirements, that a new progammer - the Original Poster in our case today - should not try to take on. Let the guy start making parts. Then, later on, we can debate this stuff...

TNR Comp on G01 Round Movements

Quite honestly, you're the only person that I've ever seen advocate against using G41/G42. And lazy CAM jockeys, but those are few & far between. You are clearly superior in skills. No shame there from this end. However, I stand by that your advice does nothing to help the young gentleman...
