    5 axis pyramid vices

Hi all, We mainly machine small parts on our Hurco VM10Ui and would like utilise as much of the machine workspace as possible. I’ve been looking at pyramid fixtures and three small vices from 5th Axis. They do a nice small fixture to fit our 200mm dia table. The trouble is that the slopes are...

G Code Sequential Engraving - Hurco

Hi guys, I’m struggling to write the code to sequential engrave on a Hurco. We don’t have NC Merge. It’s a job I have had to program on CAM and we cannot post process to sequential engrave from there. So I would like to add a line to engrave at the end. I was given this by Hurco: G65 P9700...

    CNC torque screwdriver attachment

Hi all, On our 3 axis mills we currently make a lot of parts out of various sheets of acetal and PVC from 3mm to 6mm thick. All sorts of shapes and most of the time these parts require screwing down to the large fixture using holes in the parts (can range from using M2 to M4 threads). One sheet...

Drilling 20mm in mild steel tips

Thanks for all the advice guys. I’ve taken all of it on board and decided to splash out on a solid carbide drill. 800 RPM and 240mm / min from WNT. Decent sized chips flying out. 40 parts so far and the drill stills looks new. Spindle load hits 100% out of 150% but no stalling issues.

Drilling 20mm in mild steel tips

Hi guys, Have a Hurco VM10 (quite a small mill) and need to drill 20mm x 40 deep into 140 off Mild Steel billets. Would you guys use a series of drills working up to 20mm or just spot and then straight to it? It’s a good quality HSS bit but have no through coolant on machine. Thanks in advance.

    NPT female thread

Hi guys, I've got 120 stainless parts to turn with a 1/8"-27 NPT female thread. I've been given a tap specifically for stainless. I want to be nice to the tap so I'd like to vote an internal taper before tapping. Online data tells me to drill first 8.4mm. My question is what taper angle do I...

    Shop air system

Thank you guys. Yes, it's aluminium piping- I think it's a fairly new plug and play system: http://www.airlinkcompressors.co.uk/pages/airnet-compressed-air-pipe-system We're going to use 1" piping as the main line. The Hurco and Star Sliding Head require 3/8" pipe from the drop off to the...

    Shop air system

Hi guys, We're renovating the workshop at the moment including new air system throughout from a 10 Bar compressor pumping out 60 CFM. What is the norm for the location of air piping around shops? It it normally at waist height with outlets plumbed into the main piping? Or is it normally up...

    HAAS with USB emulator

Hi guys, thanks very much for all your advice. It appears I had to format the USB stick to FAT format. I then contacted the distributor of the USB emulators on eBay and he gave me the link to download the windows 7 update. I also used a 2 GB stick as you guys suggested and everything works...

    HAAS with USB emulator

Hi guys, We've recently upgraded our VF2 floppy to one of those USB emulator drives. Everything was working fine saving to the stick from Windows XP and transferring the code to the HAAS via the emulator. Now we have a Windows 7 computer... The emulator software installed fine, but the...

    Winmax 9 Tool offsets

Thank you Scott, I like your latter suggestion the most. I'll start this method tomorrow and see how I get on. I'll import the tools for all ops from a "tools list" program for the particular job and I'm sure this will make my future setting more efficient. Thanks again!

    Winmax 9 Tool offsets

Hi guys, I'm trying to improve the efficiency of setting jobs on our Hurco VM10 with Winmax V9. Specifically in regards to tool setting. A job I do may have 3 OPS, for example using the tools below: OP1 T1 = 80mm Face Mill T2 = 10mm End mill T3 = 6mm Spot drill T4 = 8mm Drill T5 = 3mm Chamfer...

    Helicoiling before Alocrom finish?

Our platers informed us that alochroming is perfectly fine with helicoils inserted providing they are stainless steel. I didn't see them afterwards as they went direct to customer. Thanks Bobw
