    Turning 4330v - surface finish

ok, so how much should i take? the ISCAR GIP3.000.00 IC808 doesn't have a corner radius on it, so its prone to damage

    Turning 4330v - surface finish

Oddly enough, the shiny bits that are chattery are actually close enough to the 32 surface finish that I can touch it up with some scotch brite or fine sandpaper. its that stuff next to it that's ruining the finish.

the finish doesnt look like its re-cutting chips, but i'll give that a shot

    Turning 4330v - surface finish

the problem there is the depth of the grooves. smaller tools wont reach.

    Turning 4330v - surface finish

Hello everyone, I have a part here made out of 4330v steel (AMS6427) heat treated to 36-42Rc with some features that require +/-.0005 tolerances with 32µm surface finish. Hitting the tolerances isn't much of an issue and the bores and outer diameters are easy enough to buff out if the finish...

    G70/G71 cycle error

Hello, I've got 2 Mori Seiki lathes, one an NL2500, the other an NLX2500MC (Mitsubishi M730BM controller). g70/71 codes run just fine on the NL, but that machine's tied up with other stuff. When I try to run them on the NLX, I get an error: "P203 D cmnd figure error (MRC) 0 0" here's...

CNC Lathe: G76 threading for internal 1/4 NPT

Ok, now the program runs fine, but the tool barely cuts anything. I double checked the tool offset and the thread dimensions and made an adjustment to the taper, but all it cuts at most is maybe a .005" scratch of a thread. I have to adjust the threader offset +.06" in X to get it to where its...

that did the trick! funny the book doesn't mention anything about that. thanks!

CNC Lathe: G76 threading for internal 1/4 NPT

    I omitted the taper in both versions, the standard program throws up a P204 error and the F15 program throws up a P32 error N5(THREADER) G97 S550 M3 T0505 G0 X.4 Z.2 M8 Z.05 G76 P030060 G76 X.42 Z-.59 P.041 Q.01 F.0556 G0 Z.2 Z.05 X6. Z6. M9 M1 ------------------------ N5(THREADER) (F15...

CNC Lathe: G76 threading for internal 1/4 NPT

Based off of what I'm seeing, my controller doesnt use a Q value in the first line, but I gave it a spin anyway and got the same result. It only seems to run when the retract position is x.502 or higher if I set it below that, it wont run at all. tried both the standard and F15 format

CNC Lathe: G76 threading for internal 1/4 NPT

yup, ran it exactly as posted. book 310 of my manual is synchronized tapping cycles. i ran that new one and i got a "P32 ADDRESS. ERROR 0 0"

    Simple lathe programming question

there's probably a better way to do it, but ive gotten by with figuring out how many parts per bar then dividing it up into chunks to check the parts regularly. for example, 22 parts per bar: M98P3226L7 M0(CHECK) M98P3226L7 M0(CHECK) M98P3226L8 M73 M1 M30 or M98P3226L22 M73 M1 M30 always...

CNC Lathe: G76 threading for internal 1/4 NPT

I tried it out and I'm still getting the same error when it goes to run the G76. I tried decimal and non decimal, flipping the P and R from positive to negative every which way and still the same

ah, i see. ill give it a spin and see what happens

CNC Lathe: G76 threading for internal 1/4 NPT

I put the P value as negative because that's what got it to taper in the right direction, but ill give that one a try. As far as the decimals go, I'm just going off of what's in the programming manual. Also, the controller is Mitsubishi, model MSX-850II the example in the manual it gives is...

CNC Lathe: G76 threading for internal 1/4 NPT

I'm having trouble trying to get this code to work out properly. The machine in question is a Mori Seiki NL2500 lathe and the material is 316 stainless. The threads i need to cut are 1/4-18 NPT and start 0.1" into the part and needs to go .55 in. its drilled to .4219 and bored with the...
