Boesheild T-9, Jug or Aerosol Can?

I've considered buying a jug, but 1 spray can lasts a long time. I just spray a squirt in the general area I need it and rub it around with my fingers. I put on a rubber glove if I'm doing a lot. A spray can of Boeshield goes a lot farther than other spray cans.

    Is my indicator damaged?

The bearing clearances we're set not long ago when I rebuilt the lathe. They're set almost as good as they can get on the lower end of the recommendation by southbend (it's a heavy 10 lathe). I can't remember exactly what the spec calls for, but I think it was like .0007 or .0008" total, or...

    Is my indicator damaged?

I was afraid it might be that. I tried moving it very slowly to keep from making the spindle ride up on the oil and it seems to help a little, but still frustrating. Anyone have any tips for dialing in stock very precisely with a plain bearing headstock, or am I just stuck with ~.0005"...

    Is my indicator damaged?

I have 2 interapid indicators one .0001" and one .0005". I use them all the time and really trust them. I recently upgraded to number of noga mag bases, the steel arm and also the articulating type. My previous Chinese articulating type had the the adjustment at the end of the arm and I would...

    Early Hardinge Cataract 59

Thanks for the great pics Jim. I'm on the hunt for one. Stephen, as of now I don't think I'm going to bother with the threading gear. I may try and rehab the current right angle power feed unit to get power feed, but eventually I'd like to add a simple servo driven electronic lead screw that...

    Early Hardinge Cataract 59

I don't think I've ever seen a picture of the vertical bracket style lever collet closer. Do you have a picture of one? I'd like to set this machine up with one eventually.

    Early Hardinge Cataract 59

Great information Larry, thank you. I was curious if a lever collet closer was an option with the gear. However I noticed I don't have bracket in my headstock like I've seen on other machines with a lever closer. Is my machine too early for that feature, or was it an option? On that note do you...

    Early Hardinge Cataract 59

That is a great picture. Thank you! Any idea how the spindle threading gear is attached? Is it press fit on to the spindle?

    Early Hardinge Cataract 59

Serial number on headstock is 307. Serial number on end of bed is 3305. Does that mean I have a later bed with an early headstock? Any idea as to to the age with those numbers?

    Early Hardinge Cataract 59

I picked up this early plain bearing hardinge Cataract the other day. Has a 5c spindle with taper lock chuck. Has the slot on the back of the bed for a thread chaser, but no chasing parts. Also has the gear on the spindle for thread cutting, the original change gear bracket, and what I believe...

My 1959 Heavy 10 Toolroom Lathe

Yep, ready to use as is. I run the air pressure at 28 psi. When you set the air pressure it needs to be at the gun tip, which means hold the trigger down and let air flow through the gun while setting the regulator.

My 1959 Heavy 10 Toolroom Lathe

No, I'm spraying it un-thinned. You have to have the right size tip on the gun to put out enough paint. People usually call it the tip, but it's actually the needle, threaded in tip that the needle seats in, and outer air cap that are all sized together. That thick primer calls for a 1.8mm to...

My 1959 Heavy 10 Toolroom Lathe

I used single stage auto paint from the local auto paint dealer sprayed through a cheap HVLP gun, although the primer is really what's responsible for the nice look. The primer is evercoat super build 4:1 polyester primer. It's really what makes the nice finish possible. It's a very thick...

My 1959 Heavy 10 Toolroom Lathe

Finally got around to painting my lathe attachments. I was burnt out after finishing the lathe and decided I'd search for a follow rest and do them all at the same time. I'm looking forward to using them.

Anyone have a known "Quiet" 10L reverse tumbler assembly I could purchase?

Have any pictures? I'm planning on doing this or installing a motor at the tailstock end of the lead screw to reduce noise for power feeding. I don't like the noise either and my gears look to have absolutely no wear on them.

Do you still need the picture and teeth count? Sorry it's taken so long.

What Quick Change tool post to get?

Very cool collection and picture of all the multifix! I'd like to try a pewe holder in my AXA German multifix to see how they fit. What's an even bigger waste of time is to visit the south bend forum to complain about south bends.

What Quick Change tool post to get?

The link just a sparky sent is the one I have on my machine. It is indeed made in Germany. I believe all the others are made in China. Use Google Chrome web browser when you to to the site as it has built in translation which you'll need to navigate the site. Note that the prices are Euro which...

What Quick Change tool post to get?

I run a multifix size A on my heavy 10 and love it. This one is AXA brand (not to be confused with AXA sized dovetail tool posts) made in Germany, But Create tool and others have posts made in China that are supposed to be good quality.
