    Heidenhain tnc530 vs 640 feed/rapid override opinions.

I’ve been working with GF to try to find this functionality, they haven’t yet been able to figure it out. Would you mind telling where within user parameters this option is? I’ve got a ton of drop downs to look through. Thanks.

    Heidenhain tnc530 vs 640 feed/rapid override opinions.

I love controlling both feed and rapid, programs switch back and forth so fast sometimes it’s nice to be able to stop all motion on a dime. Especially with more complicated true 5 work. We got the Mill P 800 UD. It’s our second, the first being 530 control without the “D”

    Heidenhain tnc530 vs 640 feed/rapid override opinions.

Awesome great to know. A agree this is more “fanuc” style, which makes it more familiar. And I can see the advantages, but it feels high risk low reward I think. Also I always have multiple setup parts, so making sure I’m clear on my fist part is more important than getting accurate finishes and...

    Heidenhain tnc530 vs 640 feed/rapid override opinions.

The thing that scares me are crazy feeds and fast rotary movement! I like feeling like I have infinite control of both with one hand. I also like to have my other hand on the coolant on/off

    Heidenhain tnc530 vs 640 feed/rapid override opinions.

I may do this, we’ll see . I don’t want rush to conclusions. But I do feel the single knob is safer. Thanks

    Heidenhain tnc530 vs 640 feed/rapid override opinions.

Just finished install on our new Mikron! This machine is the first I’ve used with a Heidenhain 640, I’ve been working on the 530s for years. The single feed/rapid override knob is BY FAR my favorite setup tool on any control I’ve ever used. It’s the end all be all safety knob. As I’m playing...

    Inconel part finishing strategy?

Inconel 718 isn't something I work with too often so I need some opinions. Let's all just pretend this photo is the real part, it isn't, but it gets the idea across. There is a lot more going on with the real part. This part will be done in a 5 axis, it it for the most part comprised of...

Another mastercam vs hypermill discussion... Emphasis on Volumill.

I did play around with hypermills new roughing, it's actually pretty slick, but it needs work. As it currently exists it gets a lot of material off, but you need to follow up with a better 3d roughing path like volumill to get closer to net shape. That being said, I get the impression they are...

Another mastercam vs hypermill discussion... Emphasis on Volumill.

These are fair questions. This particular shop is unlike any other. They are one of the best shops in LA at what they do. The results anyway, but all the programmers are of an older generation, not quite as computer savvy as I am. They have been looking for an excuse to upgrade for years. I...

    True. That's a good point.

Another mastercam vs hypermill discussion... Emphasis on Volumill.

That makes sense, we are considering getting SOLIDWORKS as well, although having to go back and forth would be less ideal, but it's not THAT often I have that much trouble drawing in cam. Maybe 10 percent of the time it sucks...

Another mastercam vs hypermill discussion... Emphasis on Volumill.

Also what do you dislike about hypermill? I already know what I dislike about mastercam. I think it's a very good all around cam package, but it certainly has it's issues. Edit: I see you answered this question before I even asked. Thanks

Another mastercam vs hypermill discussion... Emphasis on Volumill.

Thanks. We're in Chatsworth area. I've definitely heard a lot of good things about NX. But isn't it primarily useful for Siemens controls? We are a Heidenhain shop.... At least in the 5 axis department. I'm sure it doesn't actually matter, but that's my understanding anyway.

While I agree with you in principle, I've known my new employer for many years. We are good. He knows it'll be months before we get anywhere. However, I do agree that I COULD be making cool shit Monday if we go mastercam.

Another mastercam vs hypermill discussion... Emphasis on Volumill.

I know this gets brought up every now and again, I've read all the recent posts. I'd like to discuss again before we pull the trigger. Perhaps someone has some new insight. I just joined a high end aerospace company as their 5 axis guy. We are looking to upgrade our cam system. I use...

    6061 Roughing End Mill Suggestions

Apparently I accidentally deleted my response. You're at 29 cubes, not 50. That might help you dial it in a bit.

    Service tech overcharging us. Legality?

You're not wrong, we should have been more on top of it. However, I shouldn't have to babysit professionals. On an side note, they did bring in another gentleman for training for a few days here and there, I think the thought was that time was on them.

    Service tech overcharging us. Legality?

True you do, but this feels more like extortion than "keeping them happy". Plus on the bright side, they don't sell these machines anymore, so we actually are moving our service to the manufacturer. So I'm not super worried about pissing them off, although I hate to do it. We typically dont burn...

    Service tech overcharging us. Legality?

Definitely didn't sign anything, not even the original quote. But but I did happily agree to it via email.

    Service tech overcharging us. Legality?

They certainly didn't discuss anything with us prior to any overages. I'm digging through email correspondence to see if I missed any emails. But even if I did, I didn't agree to anything above the original quote. We will see how it plays out.
