Spindle requiring too much hp to turn

Here is some more background information on the machine. Sorry, I had this in my first post and then lost that post and failed to put it in my new one: The machine is ~10 years old. It was used for about 4 years and then put into storage for another 4 years. It was stored in an...

Spindle requiring too much hp to turn

I measured the voltage on the different legs several times in many different configurations with two different multi-meters. Spinning up, spinnning down, in the cut, turning in air, etc. it stayed very constant on each leg each time. I also thought I might be dropping a leg under load but if...

Spindle requiring too much hp to turn

We are having a problem with our machine that I hoped to get some help from the people here on. The machine is a Hurco VMX 24 with 10,000 rpm 40 taper spindle. Spindle hp is listed as 10/12.5. The problem we are having is that the spindle acts like it does not have enough hp available as it...

    Coolant Coalescer?

It was mixed with the Blaser drum mixer that mounts to the top of the drum and you hook up a garden hose.

    Coolant Coalescer?

When I put a zebra coalescer on my machine with Blaser coolant, it pretty much separated out all of the coolant from the water and left me with a coolant tank full of water. I don't understand what I did wrong.

    Hurco/Winmax rigid tapping code

Thank you. I will give that a shot on Monday when I get back in the shop. Is G84 a non synced tapping cycle?

    Hurco/Winmax rigid tapping code

Can anyone give me an example of code that works for rigid tapping on a Hurco VMX24 machine with a Winmax control? I have gone through the manuals and gotten nothing and I have tried what works on a Fanuc machine and gotten nothing. I can still call Hurco applications, but that can take hours...

Auto Bail Out is a Loan?

I think that the reason that Ford is encouraging it is the same reason that Toyota and Honda are encouraging the loans. Without GM and Chrysler, suppliers are going to start to fail and that will likely kill Ford and seriously hurt the transplants.

where to go for objective info regards our auto industry

Last time I toured Honda's Alabama plant, there was a foundry there casting engines and almost all of their sheetmetal was stamped on site, the rest was done by local suppliers. They were injection molding some of their plastics on site and more were done by other local vendors. They were also...

Auto Bail Out is a Loan?

It's a loan as currently structured. It is not neccesarily throwing good money after bad as the Big 3 have a real shot at being competitive in a few years when the new union contracts come into effect. They will have costs similar to the foreign/non-union automakers and will no longer have to...

    Brazilian Ford Factory

I disagree with this pretty strongly. I believe that I pretty much rely on owners/managers to view me as an asset/liability. It gives me bargaining room for raises and perks. If I am good for the bottom line they should keep me and if I am bad for the bottom line, they should get rid of me...

ot: Put these guys in charge!

IMO- those guys have figured out the secret to loyalty: You get as much as you can afford. I expect those bonuses are an excellent investment in the future of the company.

    dedicated process policy

The guy should be fired, now. Stop him at the door before he can get in again. Then pursue criminal and civil charges. Take his house. Edit- first process policy update should be backups, preferably offsite (If you weren't already doing this). It sounds even more important as you move...

    Thoughts from a US manufacturer

Japan is also in their 15th straight year of recession. I know that their attitudes are very different, but I don't know that they are something we should aspire to, as I think their results speak for themselves. We are freaking out about one year of recession. Yes, it could potentially help...

    Thoughts from a US manufacturer

At my last job at a freelance product designer/engineer, we also often found ourselves going to China for anything plastic and some other things. My boss was not a fan of foreign imports and tried hard to buy American made in his everyday life, from clothes to cars. He would have preferred to...

Source for top notch size 1 (.100") grooving inserts

I will look at those. I don't think I was very clear in my original post. What I should have said is that I am looking for inserts who's body is .100 wide, and the cutting edge will be thinner. I am actually grooving a .047" groove. I was trying to reference the "size 1" top notch...

Thanks so much, that has at least started me down the right path.

Source for top notch size 1 (.100") grooving inserts

I have a smaller threading/grooving bar that uses NT1L threading inserts and I was hoping to use this bar to cut some snap ring grooves in some smaller diameter pieces where I will not be able to get a larger grooving bar in. Does anyone know if they even make a NG1P style insert that I would...

OT: The Stock Market and Scrap Prices.

The steel mills around here are going to 30 hour weeks, the bottom has dropped out of the market. They had it really good not too long ago.

    Mitty aka Frank Sperl

If she gets out of it and sells out, someone should help her sell off his seat of OneCNC, I think they are the only cam that lets you resell your seat. What are the options for getting rid of the mill?
