    Managing machine schedules

You should be able to set up a Gantt within Excel that ties to your data. The shop I used to work at built one in Excel and had it posted on a large tv for everyone to see where projects were at, deadlines, and how busy we were. They were extremely helpful in determining when to find more orders...

    FREE ERP System

Hmmm lol. Been in the machine shop world for years and in the software world for over a decade. I should have clarified in my original message. I wasn't asking about open-sourced software. I was talking about a normal ERP software you buy, but which would be setup on your own server vs a cloud...

“I make stuff and sell it” software

Why would you block CDN's? CDN's are basically just servers around the world that store the website and deliver it. Being as CDN's are all over the world their selling point is that they deliver content fastest to everyone vs having 1 server hosting a website in San Fransisco that will take 10...

    FREE ERP System

Interesting! What's the name of it? I figured something did exist similar to that. I'm a software consultant working for machine shops, so it's nice to be aware of as many of the different available products out on the market.

“I make stuff and sell it” software

I would agree with this statement. If you have the budget and want infinite customization, go fully custom. Otherwise use either off-the-shelf solutions or find someone who can setup an off-the-shelf solution with slight customizations to make it fit better.

    FREE ERP System

This is actually very intriguing to me. What if someone were to offer a downloadable Network-Based ERP, where you would need to setup your own server (you likely already have one running if you have these levels of NDA's) and you would simply setup the ERP on your own server so it would n't have...

If you don't mind my asking, what's the reason you are against online ERPs/Software?

    ERP Software

Hi Everyone I'm working on doing some market research into the uses and need of ERP software within machine shops. Having worked in a machine shop in every area between button pusher, QC, and manager, I know that each area of the shop has different needs and some shops simply don't need ERP...

“I make stuff and sell it” software

Being a software consultant I think I can add some value here. As many others have said, if you have the budget for it, hire it out to a firm. I would personally recommend you either find a local developer, or software agency who doesn't outsource their work to manage the project for you...

    QA/QC Issues

Typically in instances like this I recommend you have "Travelers" with every order. The traveler includes all the order information, but also includes every step in the process from material coming in the door to the product leaving. Attached would also be a BOM (Bill of materials) for the...

    Inventory Management

Got it. In that case, your best bet may be to setup some software with QR or Barcodes to track inventory and get a wireless barcode scanner or inventory software that would allow your employees to use their phones for scanning codes when they check in/out material. Something where they can check...

    Inventory Management

At the shop I used to work at, we ran into a very similar problem. One thing we started doing, which was required by our AS9100 certification anyways but was very helpful, was to use a paint-pen and write down the order # on every piece of incoming material. Everything we ordered was for a...

    Production scheduling

I run a software dev/consulting firm for machine shops. We are actually preparing to develop and launch a shop scheduling calendar over the next 36 days. I would love to hear some feedback from all of you on the features that would be the most useful and what you would be looking to get out of...

    Machine scheduling

Pricing varies significantly on a project-to-project basis. The projects I work on and quote typically range from $5k to over $100k, though we do quite a few very small projects for local machine shops that range from $600-$2500 as well. For machine shops specifically, I've helped create...

    Machine scheduling

I worked in a shop for years and we had (they still do today as well) all the scheduling similar to what you're looking for in an excel document (though this may have moved to dynamic365, I don't recall). Anyways, now I'm a software/web/app developer (run a development company) so if you'd like...

    Job Scheduling Calendar

If you end up wanting to go the custom route, give me a holler. I've been in the machining world for several years and worked in a shop for some time and am now a professional software/web/app developer.
