    Tapping Acetal/Delrin

The parts I’m making will be threaded in by hand and aren’t necessarily screws or have a way to use a wrench/screw driver to tighten them. It’s just a little plug that is finger tightened. The only way to over-tighten it would be to use a pair of pliers to tighten it down.

    Tapping Acetal/Delrin

Thank you! So no worries using the 12 tpi over the 18? Thanks

    Tapping Acetal/Delrin

Thank you. The parts I’m making will be threaded/un-threaded often. I’d prefer the 12 tpi for durability and lessening the chance of cross threading. But I was worried it wouldn’t tap well

    Tapping Acetal/Delrin

I’m working on a project that’s made of Acetal plastic. I want to power tap the parts in a HAAS ST20 to speed up the process and it’s a non critical thread. The thread has to be 9/16 and can be either 12 TPI or 18 TPI. It’s for a plastic plug that threads into another piece of acetal. My...

Gun Drilling and Deep Hole reaming

This 17-4 PH is Condition “A”. I just found that out. It’s not drilling well at all. I attempted to drill it with an Iscar insert drill with the recommended speeds and feeds from the iscar rep and the drill insert failed 4” into the part and trashed the drill. So this stuff is a headache.

Gun Drilling and Deep Hole reaming

Hello. I’m deep hole gun drilling 17-4 stainless steel. I’m drilling 8.5” deep in a HAAS ST20 with high pressure coolant. The drill I’m using is a 12” long carbide tipped Sterling gun drill that’s 0.687” diameter. I’m having a really hard time getting the drill to stabilize. I’ve tried SFM from...

    Timed Threads

Hello all. I’m new to the forum and I’m going on my 4th year of being a machinist. I have a question that I’ve been trying to answer myself. I have some parts at work that I will have to make. They require I.D. threads that start and stop in the same spot. They’re round pieces about 10” in...
