    Chicago W34 Finger Brake

Thanks for that, when I am at my desktop I will read it. I attempted the set up instructions in the Chicago manual to no effect. The brake was leveled and bolted down, but with their loosening and tightening of the noted bolts, I couldn't get the crown that they recommend. With a 4' Stabila...

    Chicago W34 Finger Brake

I've only have a small Diacro brake, never one this large that requires setting the camber/crown of the top leaf and the relationship of the bending leaf to that crown. All the other adjustments, like you said, are the same just larger.

    Educate me on bore welders

Guy I was working for just bought one of their portable rigs for line boring the heavy equipment he welds on. Slick as all hell, cost about 22k, but you can make about $750 a hole.

    Chicago W34 Finger Brake

Did you ever wonder what all of the nuts and threaded rods did on these beasts?

    Chicago W34 Finger Brake

A couple of the nose bars look like that is not far off.

    bar straightening recommendations

    That's quite a rig.

    Chicago W34 Finger Brake

That's good to know, the reason I thought it might need "more" is that the 2x2 that came on it was not straight by any stretch of the imagination.

    Chicago W34 Finger Brake

And the second part of my question, did you "setup" the machine as per the manual?

    Chicago W34 Finger Brake

.... Meaning it not being bolted to the floor?

    Chicago W34 Finger Brake

So that's a drop down set up? Does the addition of casters limit the adjustments in the set up section of the manual?

    Chicago W34 Finger Brake

I found this brake down in Hartford, it was a White Whale to me, been looking for something like this for a long time. Even after reading all I could about this machine here prior to buying, I made a couple of mistakes. The first was that I neglected to notice that the angle bar was not original...

    Acorn Table Fixtures

Thanks for the replies and an interesting yarn from my fellow Vermonter. I was looking for clamps and hold downs...but was really just being a bit lazy and not wanting to purchase 20' of 1 1/2" bar stock, but I will likely craigslist some C clamps and fab my own.

    Acorn Table Fixtures

I just found myself a really nice 5' x 5' Acorn table that was used at an IBM plant for assembly lay out only, no welding was ever done on it...until now. I digress. Would any of you have suggestions on a source for fixtures, hold down clamps, blocks etc? Is Weldsale the only gig in town? I have...

Pratt & Whitney WW2 Special Ops Mill

Excellent info, thanks. The spindle cap is solid, there is no place for a rod a la a Bridgeport or anything, there is no anywhere for a wedge to go that I can see. I'll have to check, but I believe I saw a collet for an end mill that had an opened threaded hole on the end which would lead me to...

Pratt & Whitney WW2 Special Ops Mill

Thanks, yes you are right, I'd like to get this running as true as I can, then just buy a small Bridgeport. FYI no slot for a drift.

Pratt & Whitney WW2 Special Ops Mill

While I agree that some of the run out is caused by that single set screw (I thought about putting in 2 more and centering it like a 3 ja chuck) but I measured some of the run out AT the the set screw, which lead be to believe that it was the at the end of a longer shaft that cut slightly bent.

Pratt & Whitney WW2 Special Ops Mill

    It is straight 3/8".

Pratt & Whitney WW2 Special Ops Mill

This is what it looks like under the cover, it looks like that spindle is solid (stepped) and continuous. I haven't opened the top of the head yet, but I would imagine that the spindle is a long rod and held at the top of the head by a nut in compression against the bearings shown.

Pratt & Whitney WW2 Special Ops Mill

That was it, thanks so much. I was able to use it for modest aluminum milling with a 3/8" end mill but as the Wiki said, not it's real intention. If anyone else could give me info on a potential way to straighten out (and disassemble) the spindle it would be most helpful.

Pratt & Whitney WW2 Special Ops Mill

Hi all, would anyone be able to give me some information on this machine? I inherited it from my grandfather who was a chief engineer for Indian Motorcycles from 1940-1944. I posted a query about it on a site in the early days of the internet, and someone told me of a specific function that it...
