Grob 4v-24 Shifting Lo to Hi
We have a Grob 4v-24 bandsaw that will not stay in high gear. It will grab for a second, then immediately kick back in low.I was wondering if anyone has tear the gearbox apart to see what the culprit is? -

Weld Positioner DC drive issue
The drive is double voltage, 115v AC- =90v dc, 230ac = 180dc. Its been wired that way since 1988, so I don't really see a need to change it. Weld Positioner DC drive issue
We have an Koiki 2500 lb weld positioner withe a DC motor and drive for the rotary. The motor is a 180v 1 Hp Baldor, the drive is a Cleveland Machine Controls Pace Master MPA-04342. Soft Start/VFD for High Interia load?
That is the motor shaft speed. The rated amps on the motor are less than on the VFD. I read that somewhere before, and double checked it. If motor speed isn't an issue, than I'll hook up this thing up and see if it works. Side topic, since there are three pendant stations, and they will be...- dirk

Soft Start/VFD for High Interia load?
No brake on the load. The motor is only spinning at 810 rpm. Will that effect the use of a vfd?- dirk

The average hr. shop rates are low compared to other industries how do we fix that?
I will hold my breath for 10 years. A large majority of tradesmen (machinists, toolmakers, welders,etc) are 55 or older. I was in a larger fab shop last week, and the foreman was talking about going to the races, he mentioned OVER HALF his employees were getting the 55 and over discount. I...- dirk

Rolling 180 Degree Parts
I know rolling is more of an art than science, but I am getting my ass kicked when rolling parts 180 degrees (or any angle really) in the middle of a panel. Building a Straightening press?
There is no pump, I see gantry style presses all the time, and they money they bring is almost new price. Especially for a table size over 30" wide. We are straightening more than plate. Plates are easy to straighten, especially with a torch, but an assembled weldment doesn't move so easy... -

The cylinder has two springs, attached is the link for the manual with diagram http://www.dakecorp.com/manuals/Elecdraulic%20I%20-%20905%20Series.pdf . I was mistaken on the stroke, it is actually 16", not 12. -

The power team air over hydraulic would take 7 min to fully extend the ram. This pump however would only take 2 min https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?item=9-8003&catname=hydraulic , seems like a decent deal, especially with the pendant, extremely helpful when straightening. -

Yes, but some parts are designed such that it has no effect, or makes things worse due to internal stresses. Also throwing it on a straightening press is faster and much less of a guessing game. Luckily the ram and original pump were only designed for 6000 psi from dake, so you are saying the... -

Acorn welding platens
Same here. I have yet to see a better design than an acorn design. Spatter doesn't stick to it, can apply tons of clamp pressure. If your talking a blueco design, throw some 1.5" plate, weld multiple passeson that bad boy and try to hold it with those clamps. They are nice for sheetmetal and...- dirk
