I fabricated the mount from some scrap aluminum. The black sheet metal sleeve for the computer is a Dell OEM mount. I don't really like the extension cord hanging there, but it works. -

Sure, maybe it's overkill, but the more I use it the more I like it. I did look at some of the $2-300 wireless DNC boxes, but having a Windows box right at the machine is pretty handy for me. -

I did push and pull along the X and didn't see anything over .0005. I also put indicator on the Y saddle and the probe on the end of the ball screw and jogged the X. The same .0005 backlash there so the screw isn't moving much relative to the Y saddle. I also put indicator on the table and... -

I did some prying and indicating and didn't see more than .001 of movement. That was both table to Y saddle and then table to spindle. I got a bearing kit ordered and will see if that fixes the issue like RC Mech said. -

I took off the motor and coupler box and spun everything and it feels fine. Probably not a bad idea to replace the thrust bearings anyways, but wouldn't a bad thrust bearing cause lost motion? -

Not trying to change the subject of a thread I started, but yes, the forklift is a good size at 6000lb lift. I have a smaller one (3000lb lift) that's almost more handy since it's so tiny and maneuverable.- Tedward4

I did eventually pull the turret and head off to inspect. Turns out there isn't a spider but the turret has t slots. I did get shorter ones from McMaster and put back together. I did reach out to H&W Machine and they were super helpful.- Tedward4

Sorry if I was confusing on the round ram vs. round column. I was saying that the column (turret bolt/nut location) appears to be one that's used on round ram machines, not dovetail machines.
