Do you hate your Renishaw Tool Probe?

most likely, this is whats known as a 3 vee, (3 ball) kinematic mount there are others such as a cone, vee, flat (3 ball) that effectively does the same thing, and that is exactly constrain a body in 6 dofs. i certainly did not invent the kinematic mount but have been engineering with them for...

Do you hate your Renishaw Tool Probe?

Thank you for your input, your concerns are certainly valid and i had similar ones early one. Care must be taken to make sure the the kinematic interfaces are free from debris before mounting but other than that no skills are required as it is self nesting. We have been running both versions for...

Do you hate your Renishaw Tool Probe?

Hi Paul, We have kinematic base plates that for 80mm and 100mm T-slot spacing. We have T-nuts for HAAS and Hurco. One of them they may fit Doosan. If you send me the T-slot dimensions we can see if one of them will work. Beauty about kinematic mounts is nothing needs to be precision as they are...

Fall in love with your Tool Probe again!

Do you hate your tool probe for always being in the way? Do you hate the costs and the hours of downtime for repairing and re-calibrating a crashed probe? Well I did to and I got fed up and designed a tool probe mounting system. Instantly mount and de-mount your tool probe in seconds with no...

is this an older machine? who is your reseller?

Do you hate your Renishaw Tool Probe?

We used to but are now back on good terms again. Dang thing was always in the way and re-calibration is a PITA an at least and hour of downtime. I solved this problem by designing a system to de-mount and re-mount a tool probe in seconds with no tools and no recalibration. We made two types, one...

    Hurco VMX30Ui Repeatability problems. Anchoring?

We have the same machine and was installed by the Hurco reseller. It is not bolted to the floor but it was leveled. The machine is extremely accurate and we have not had any issues as you note. We are in MA also.

Non-circular holes. Which shape is the better choice?

w/o knowing the details of the system, thus speed, anti-rotation tolerance etc its is really hard to suggest a proper design, however in general given that this rod is reciprocating in a sleeve, leave that interface alone. i would not use a square rod or key in the sleeve to clock the rotation...

    machining hundreads of small blocks 1.125 x .5 x .25 thick

Hi All, So my machinist and I are kind of at odds on how to machine a hundred of the these 1.125 x 0.5 x 0.25" thick 6061 blocks. All sides must be machined, but the tolerances are +/- .010". My machinist and I (owner and programmer) at are odds the bet way to do this efficiently. Any...

    Hurco VM10 spindle height questions

sure, I can see that hence the need to keep the spindle at room temp. my point was it still seems like a lot of growth for a 3C temp change which is not much.

    Hurco VM10 spindle height questions

I found this interesting so I ran a simple calc to see if its possible for this type of growth to occur. Assuming the frame is cast iron and ball screw is 440C or the like and that they both have a coefficient of thermal expansion of 10.8 ppm/C. Looking a relative change between the spindle nose...

    Which 5-axis machine?

looking at a 2011 VM10U 685 hrs, super clean machine with the following options installed. any idea what the sticker price was? any idea what its worth?

    Which 5-axis machine?

typically we are working in aluminum and some stainless, but mostly aluminum. do not often get exotics like invar etc which i would machine for sure. tolerances range from +/- .005 on down. usually we design parts smart and know where to crank down dims and where not. not always the case with...

    Which 5-axis machine?

i do not necessarily need to machine a 12x12x12 just stating is seldom get a part over that work volume. i was looking at a machine sized like the Hurco VM10UI. What do you think of this machine? i am in a niche where i am not a full up job shop in that we make our own parts for our designs and...

    Which 5-axis machine?

Greetings All, Am considering purchasing smaller machining center and a 5-axis really would be great to reduce setup and hopefully increase part accuracy and throughput. I have my eye on Hurcos, they make a swivel head and trunnion style. Am not sure what the Hurco cost but I bet its north of...

Special Tooling Costs. How to bill the customer

thank you all for your advice. the plug gage I did not want to eat was for a BPST taper thread. in 25 yrs of engineering I have yet to design a part with a BPST but this part came along and the plug gage was over $220. the job was $1200 w/o the gage. As for NPT plug gages, I have no problem...

Special Tooling Costs. How to bill the customer

Greetings, I have a job where I need to buy some pipe thread gages, ones is $250! The gages are adding up to be nearly half the cost of the job. My question is how do you quote the job? Is customary to have the client pay for all or only part of the gages as they do not get to keep them but...

    Deep close tol Cbores

thank all for you suggestions. was thinking I would need a solid carbide boring bar but was still concerned about chatter on the deepest hole. the custom reamer sounds nice and easy but lead time would prevent it...was a short turn low volume project. regarding the solid carbide reamer, what's...
