    HAAS grease reservoir re-fill

hard to imagine it going anywhere else. Back in the Olden days we used to have to skim this " way lube" oil from the tanks often as it was quite the Petri dish for bacterial growth

the kit is $750. + $145. for a gallon of oil. Sounds like a $1K dollar can-o-worms :) I'll wait and let the HAAS techs bash this one out before i switch click on Gray bars to change procedures...

    HAAS grease reservoir re-fill

not according ot Ryan at Sparrow and Metalica :( , looks like they're having trouble either with residual pressure or not getting oil everywhere it needs to go . Based on the limited posts , i think i will wait. Seems like the newer machines switch over no problem, but the older machines...

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

Thanks for the belt advice. The belts on there were / are Jason Unimatch. I ordered 1 new belt from mcmaster and the Dayco they sent was huge, which is funny if you expect that the old belts would have stretched after 15 years. So i found another Unimatch on ebay, better than Dayco but...

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

Sorry to hear that, a bad day for anyone, even if you have money to burn, which most shops don't. I think most manufacturers are dropping the clutch assemblies like hot potatoes, variable drive is the new standard. I did want to update this thread as i got this dam thing running again. The...

    HAAS grease reservoir re-fill

wow, exploding grease canisters, one more thing to worry about, and with my luck lately on machine break-downs, almost guaranteed to happen before i retire. The local HFO sales is great, service is terrible, and there has been massive turnover there. Last time i drove a long way to get the parts...

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

I don't get it either, called their service department 2 or 3 times in the last couple of years to come out and do a general welfare check on my 10 year old VF2 VMC. No reply to my messages. The company was owned by a guy everyone knew for decades, and then recently sold to some multi-state...

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

$125. door to door is a Fing bargain to get someone who really knows what they're doing IMO. $300./hour i guess probably normal for California. Here in Colorado we are somewhere in between, but good luck finding someone at any price

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

i did a search for Colchester shaft replace and found a guy with same problem. Interesting discussion about repairing the shaft using a tapered QD bushing, but nothing about disassembly / re-assembly...

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

that's not a bad idea, I did call my local sales guy at MMT, they carry many lines of new machines. He was with them for 24 years and knew everyone in the Denver area/front range. The one guy he knew that was capable retired, however there was a place selling used machines, if they're in...

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

you are correct Tyrone, there is a 3rd element on the end of that same shaft. I was told it's a centrifugal brake, that helps slow the spindle down but doesn't really stop it instantly. That it's there to assist the foot brake, which is a drum brake on the shaft above the clutch shaft. I...

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

well, the parts all told, shaft, bearings, seals, etc. Were $1K, i would have gladly paid another $4K in labor to someone who really knew what they were doing . to Hell with it, if i can't sort this i'll throw a tarp over it and let the next guy deal with it or call property services to haul...

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

thanks for replying Richard, good to know a few guys like you still out there I'm not in the category of " no vice , no dice" but i know there are many guys out there who can do anything with a file and a chisel, and I'm not in that category either. What kills me about this lathe is there is...

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

our building is chock full of really bright students, some have PHD's, I wouldn't trust them with a bicycle tire, much less a complex gearbox The machine needs a new input shaft, the pulley wore out the shaft. Not sure why, but the new pulley is much lighter and also balanced, so i'm guessing...

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

that sucks, bad news all around. I even tried to get Lagun Republic to refer someone, they own the Turnmaster brand. They were very helpful with parts, but they couldn't find anyone either.

What happened to all the machine repair guys?

I needed an Engine lathe repair, Turnmaster 17 x 60 ( Taiwanese knock-off of Colchester Triumph). I must have contacted 10 different companies in the Denver area and only 1 guy replied, then stopped replying. Is this a dead trade? All these guys retired? kinda sad
