Another Estimating Part Cost or Price Thread.

DukeJCDC, The shop that I work at is currently looking at Paperless Parts. What do you think of the software and how do you use it? What type of parts do you manufacture? Primarily flat pattern or machined component? How do it know the amount of time required to manufacture the parts? Is it...

    New Manual Lathe

Just relaying what I was told. As far as the cut I know this was occurring but the tolerance could just be blowing smoke. I will point out though that this shop was very particular about how all their machines were set even these weilers were grouted in for leveling and the maintenance was on...

    New Manual Lathe

Well we went to look at 7 of these machines the other day and I have to say the were fantastic. What is not so fantastic is the price. For and E50 your looking in the $250k ball park with basic options and the smallest through spindle size. That being said we were wanting to explore the...

    New Manual Lathe

I and 2 other guys are actually going to a near by shop tomorrow to take a look at a few E series lathes. Interested to see if they are a good fit for our application.

I need help solving a math question

Perhaps I'm not understanding what he wants, but I think he is basically wanting a V-block and the material to rest in the 90 deg angle and the material to be 1/16" higher than the V-block. If so, what you drew will still work, he will just need to solve for C and then add 1/16" to the dim.

    Metal Spinning Shop Needed

Sorry, I know that I gave some what limited detail, but that is because other than the shape a lot of the other parameters aren't very critical. The flavor of AL doesn't really matter to much, but just needs to be electrically conductive. One of the reasons I did not pigeonhole the alloy is...

    Metal Spinning Shop Needed

We are wanting to make 2 or 3 right now for a prototype. This is a modification of a current product and we will need 2 or 3 for testing purposes. As long as the data is correct we will then be moving forward. Of the current product, we sell on average about 200 a year. The material is AL

    Metal Spinning Shop Needed

If the this is not the correct area to post this please let me know, but I have a metal spinning job for our internal product, and was hoping that some one on here may do metal spinning and would be interested. I can provide drawings and more detail if you are interested, but basically we have...

Estimate / rate to make some parts

You said the ID is already present is the OD to size as well? I know most of you are mentioning CNC, but sounds like this may not be a repeat job anyway, would it not be quicker to just through it in a collet block on a manual mill for flats and thread the end with a die. There is no spec for...

    New Manual Lathe

Do you know what model of Weiler you were looking at that was 80K? Was it an E series?

    New Manual Lathe

If we were to go with the larger lathe, I do like the idea of the second chuck. Had not really been exposed to this style of lathe prior to starting to look into them now.

    New Manual Lathe

So after looking into this more, it looks that we are probably better off replacing one of the smaller lathes that we used on a daily basis rather than the large lathe and hope to use it as an everyday machine for small parts (kind of figured this was going to be the case). That being said...

    New Manual Lathe

I will preface that I have been reading older postings related to this topic but want to ask about a specific machine that I have not found discussed but am open to other options. Our shop is looking to possibly replace one of our current manual lathes. We currently have 5 older lathes 2 of...

Can you recommend a metal finishing machine?

So I know it has been a little while since this thread was discussed, but I'm going to raise if from the dead. At our shop, we have 2 water jets (Flow and Omax), and we have a Mazak laser. With the addition of the laser, we are able to crank out flat pattern parts a lot faster, which raises...

    Vacuum Plate Fixturing

The parts tend to be about 8" x 8" and about 3/4" deep. Final wall thickness after taking the internal material out is about 1/16". we do some that are a little bigger, probably 10"x 12" and about 1.5" deep and a triangle that is 17" high and 13" base, this is only about 1/4" thick. We are...

    Vacuum Plate Fixturing

So I work in a job shop that we machine a lot of plastic housings out of ABS plastic and small sheet metal parts, often cut on a laser jet and then machined features added on a the mill. The work holding can be a bit of a pain and often more than one set-up. We currently use double sided tape...

    ERP and Waterjet/Laser Nesting

So the way that the ERP software works is when the operator starts a job they enter/scan into a job and their time starts. The waterjet is a Flow and does not communicate with the ERP software (perhaps that is the better question, does anyone have experience making the 2 communicate). We could...

    ERP and Waterjet/Laser Nesting

@garyhlucas, we already us the length of cut and pierce time for calculating the time require for cutting the material. In fact, that is part of our quoting process. This is more on the back side to verify that quoting is done correctly and we would like to be able to use this data to...

    ERP and Waterjet/Laser Nesting

An example would be that if we had 4 different jobs to run of different parts, but all out of the same sheet of material and the program runs for say 20 minutes, all 4 jobs will be equally given 5 minutes or 20 minutes depending on how we input the jobs. The problem is if one job took 2...
