Turning a threaded part around and threaded into the next toolholder

Our CNC department does good work for the most part. This part in question is threaded, a boss turned on it behind the threads, and the OD turned, all in the same operation. The boss is Ø.562 x .127 long and the drilled hole in question is Ø.062. Admittedly I don't know exactly what they are...

Turning a threaded part around and threaded into the next toolholder

Our CNC Department makes what we call chucks, parts that are threaded on one end and have a boss to locate them in their final resting place. They are then turned around held by a solid diameter, and then a hole drilled into the non-threaded end. The problem is the drilled hole runs out from...

    Laps

If you need a pic I'll see what I can do but just picture a piece of ground drill rod, looks exactly the same but down to smaller sizes. These were centerless ground for years for us. The smaller diameters we have in .001 increments and the larger .005 increments. We stone them down to the exact...

    Laps

I verified that the laps are 6" long down to .020, not sure about the other sizes.

    Laps

These do not work well for us, the bores don't come out as straight as with the other laps. They also aren't small enough. Thanks

    Laps

The .010 at that length may not be accurate but they are longer than anything I have currently found, I'll check today. We had a supplier and bought a very large amount through the years but apparently they are no more.

    Laps

I'm looking to purchase round metal laps, they need to be 5-6 inches long and from .010-.312 in diameter. At one time we had a source for them but that has since dried up. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Making radius gages

We've drilled holes before but the amount of gages we are talking about makes it too time consuming. We need to put certain radii on our dies and can be anywhere between the .005 to 2.000 above, probably talking in the 100 piece range. We'd just buy them if they were available but already have...

    Making radius gages

I'm in need of custom sized radius gages, basically from .005 to 2.000 inches. Thinking that it may be easier to build them than buy and am wondering what you think is the most practical way to accomplish this? We don't have a wire EDM which I've seen used in the past to replicate standard...

    Zeiss Smartzoom 5

I had a chance to try this out for a short time yesterday for it's intended purpose, magnify the inside surface of a tube with an ID of .018. Focusing on the top was no problem but seeing down a short distance, .020 didn't go as well. Different lighting settings, objectives ( all 3 that are...

    Zeiss Smartzoom 5

Yes, mostly visual. We were hoping to be able to do what I described as an add on but I don't think it's up to the task. We do have another objective lens on the way which may help.Measurment, I don't see it any more accurate than the toolmakers mics we use or our 20 year old smartscope.

    Zeiss Smartzoom 5

It was purchased to verify the condition of the ID of small tubes and other visual conditions and most importantly, have a good record of them. We produce parts, clean them and then send them out for plating. Sometimes the plater says the parts didn't plate properly because they were not clean...

    Zeiss Smartzoom 5

The company I work for just purchased a Zeiss Smartzoom 5. We are manufacturer of deep drawn parts and today I tried to measure one of our deep draw dies with limited success. Couldn't get a clear image to either view or measure. This die was .140 ID diameter and the radius profile I was trying...

    Surface Roughness Tester- Stylus question

I'm having a bit of difficulity finding information on picking the proper stylus for a Surface Roughness Tester, Mitutoyo SJ-400 if it matters. Trying to test the Ra of a cylindrical drawn stainless steel part, .100 in diameter. The stylus I am using seems like it has little radius and...

    Polishing drawn parts

I believe we might try Able but we want to try to do them ourselves. I did a pretty good job with a cotton bob with rubbing compound and am trying to find a small mounted sponge type material that will fit inside this part. Of course if we find something we can live with, we will automate it.

    Polishing drawn parts

I work for a manufacturer who specializes in deep draw on transfer presses. I made a part that has a parabolic shape on the ID in which the finish is too porous for the customer. I need to come up with a way to polish this parabolic surface. Although it is a parabolic shape, think of it as a...

    Lead shot maker nozzles

Not the response you are looking for but do you have plans for a shotmaker? I have seen a sketch of a nozzle and will look for it.

    NRA sells out on Kagan

It's the same old argument but unfortunately, they want to take our guns and as time passes, the better chance there is of it happening. IF we don't get off our asses and help with the elections this fall, it will happen. I'm having a hard time believing that a lot of the people that are...

Clark Industries Model EDR Hardness Tester

Anyone? I can't seem to find anything.

Clark Industries Model EDR Hardness Tester

We have a Clark Industries Model EDR hardness tester at work that is used for testing steel and carbide hardness. I'd like to test some lead that I have using the BHN scale but aside from a chart showing which point to use (we have it), not sure what weights should be on the back or if the...
