Looking to have a taper attachment installed.

It appears that the first link posted by 10kPete is indeed for the South Bend 9.

    F/S 8" Cushman Chuck 1-5/8" back plate

I've had this 8" 4 Jaw Cushman chuck for a while that I don't have much use for. It looks in great shape, just needs a good cleaning. Has a 1.5/8 back plate and fits my SB 9a spindle. I'd be interested in selling it or possibly trading for a 6" in similar condition. I have a bunch of additional...

    New Heavy 10

If you plan on dismantling and restoring, you might want to invest in an automotive type parts cleaner. Makes the process a LOT easier. There are numerous models out there that appear to be the same, just branded differently. I found that "Oil Eater" diluted 50/50 worked great. Even took paint...

Extra Parts from my 1952 9A Available

I'd be interested in the collet rack. Do you have just the tray? Also the carriage stop.

WTB South Bend 9" Steady Rest

Kudos to you Evan! Your lathe came out great. I went through the same process last year. I look back at it fondly now, and as much as I enjoyed doing it, the thought of cleaning more greasy, ignored and abused 80 year old lathe parts is not something I look forward to.

WTB South Bend 9" Steady Rest

That steady rest is actually mine. I'll let it go for $325 plus $20 for shipping if a forum member wants it.

South Bend 9 compound lead screw replacement

Did you heat treat the drill rod after cutting the screw?

South Bend 9 compound lead screw replacement

You know, that was my first thought, but after seeing these available and not at all experienced in threading, I'm thinking buying pre-made rod might be best. Acme rod is also available on Ebay. I see there is stainless steel and carbon steel. Anyone have an opinion on one over the other?

South Bend 9 compound lead screw replacement

I'm considering trying my hand at replacing the acme lead screw on my compound. I see there are acme threaded rods available in 1/2-10. I know the south bend screw is 7/16-10 which doesn't seem available. Using 1/2-10 would require a new custom brass nut which I'll likely try my hand at as well...

    South Bend 9 Taper Attachment

Thanks. Tried searching for instructions for a SB9 and couldn't find anything. If someone has them, I would appreciate seeing them!

    South Bend 9 Taper Attachment

I recently acquired a taper attachment for my 9a and it has two alignment pins as well as bolt holes in the bracket that attaches to the rear of the apron. My apron has two bolt holes that align with the bracket but no holes for the pins. It would be easy enough to punch out the pins, but now...

Lifting a South Bend 9A onto a bench

Or...dismantle it a bit further. Few screws will remove the headstock as well as the gearbox and lead screw. Will give you a chance to clean it up a bit and inspect things.

    Carbide bit holder recommendation

Sounds good. AR Warner looks like a decent quality set. Thanks.

    Carbide bit holder recommendation

Agreed. I wasn't contemplating buying that set. Just posted it so you folks would know what I was looking for. I have a relative with the same machine who went from HSS to carbide and said he would never go back. I have very little experience with either. Really just starting out after...

    Carbide bit holder recommendation

I have a South Bend 9a and I'm looking for carbide bit holders for my axa type (Phase 11) quick change tool post. Something like this: 1/2" 5 Pc Indexable Carbide Insert Turning Tool Bit Lathe Set C6 Chipbreaker: Amazon.com: Tools & Home Improvement However, I'd like decent quality. It seems...

South Bend 9 Skinner Chuck Fitment

Thanks. The threads are a little pitted, but I didn't feel it was enough to prevent me from using it. The picture might make it appear worse than it is. I'm no machinist. Just a hobbiest. Guess I'll see what it looks like (and if it fits) after running a tap through it.

South Bend 9 Skinner Chuck Fitment

Thanks for the generous offer. I bought a used tap off ebay. Not sure how good it will be. If it's junk, I'll definitely take you up on it!
